I like working in social care because it gives me the chance to make a real difference in people’s lives, even in small but meaningful ways. I genuinely enjoy supporting people to feel respected, valued, and listened to. Being able to help someone maintain their dignity, independence, and confidence is something I find very rewarding. Building trusting relationships with the people I support is one of the most important parts of my role, and I take pride in being someone they can rely on.

I enjoy helping with everyday activities, listening to what people want and need, and encouraging them to make their own choices. Seeing someone become more confident, achieve a goal, or simply feel happier because of the support I have given them is what motivates me. I believe everyone deserves to feel safe, supported, and in control of their own life, and social care allows me to be part of that.

Working in social care has also helped me grow as a person. It has taught me patience, empathy, and understanding, and it has shown me the importance of treating everyone as an individual. I am specially passionate about supporting people with learning disabilities to live as independently and fully as possible. Knowing that I can help someone feel more confident and included makes this work truly meaningful to me.

“If you are passionate, caring, and looking for a rewarding job that comes with excellent training and great opportunities for personal development join HHC as a care assistant and make a real difference.

Care and support practitioners at HHC come from all walks of life and may have had minimal or no experience in care but are keen to explore a career in care and while many may already have invaluable experience what they all have in common is the right values, they are adaptable friendly, polite and of a caring disposition, they enjoy working as part of a team with people from different cultures and backgrounds and consider it a privilege to be trusted to look after others.

Being a care assistant doesn’t just mean helping clients in their own homes to remain as active and independent as possible while respecting their rights of choice, privacy and dignity, it also means having fun and laughter and making their day a whole lot brighter whilst using your skills to help them to deal with day to day difficulties like personal care, meals, fluids and medication, it also means working collaboratively with your team and third parties to make a difference.

Being a PST (Team leader) at HHC gives me the best of both worlds, assisting to make sure that the supported people get the best package available to them and to support the carers in their day-to-day roll of providing the best care to our supported people”

“After taking early retirement……..from a senior management job, I realised that retirement wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. I got bored and was looking for something to do to develop and use new skills and hopefully be able to help others not so fortunate as myself, so I looked towards a short career in the caring industry. I was fortunate to secure a position as a Support practitioner with Highland Home Carers, with whom I have now been employed for the last eight years.

I have found that becoming a care professional is not just a great job, but a very rewarding job, which also hopefully makes a difference to someone else’s life. With continued support of the same person over a period of time you become a part of their family, and there’s nothing better than seeing their smiling face on greeting them. Home carers now receive a good rate of pay and benefits, with paid ongoing training to keep you at the sharp end of your career, but job satisfaction and the fact that you are making a difference to other people’s life is in itself reward beyond words. With this in mind I wouldn’t hesitate for anyone at any age to take up a position within the Home Care industry and benefit from a whole new experience”.

“People often think……. it’s a wee cup of tea, giving a supported person some food and having a blether. It’s so much more than that. Being a care/support practitioner is a very deep fulfilling job role. You make strong connections with the people you support, essentially becoming like a 2nd family. You make a real difference to individuals lives, even the smallest things can make the biggest difference! No two days are the same, we support a wide range of individuals, and everyone is unique. The individuals we support look forward to us coming in and making their day, as do their pets!

Many people may find themselves thinking that they wouldn’t be able to work in care “it’s not for them”. However, many people don’t realise that they already have the great qualities and values to be a care/support practitioner, they do it naturally every day that it just doesn’t occur to them. Having a positive attitude and the will to develop your knowledge and understanding with our outstanding training department could have you thriving within the health and social care sector.

At HHC we are more than a care/support practitioner. At times we are emotional support, companionships, chefs, cleaners, a chauffeur, a shoulder to cry on, a friend”.

“It is a role I find very…… rewarding and engaging as well as positively challenging. It provides me with the opportunity to support people to achieve their daily living activities. I have always been big on assisting people and this role provides the avenue to do this. My favourite part of the job would be being able to meet the demands of my clients be it going on walks, making a meal, going for disco or choosing the best outfit for the day and also forming beautiful relationships with them. I would say that this is an amazing role for people who love to make an impact in the lives of others. Working with HHC has been an amazing journey as the company provides the necessary platform and support to ensure that work goes on smoothly”.
