Co-op Fortnight began yesterday, and over the next two weeks we’ll be celebrating co-operatives and the positive difference they make in communities.

At Highland Wholefoods, people come first. It’s about shared values, working together and building something better.

Summer Solstice

Today marks the Summer Solstice, the longest day and shortest night of the year, when the sun reaches its highest point and light fills the land.

For our ancestors, this was a time to connect with nature and give thanks for the earth’s gifts. In Gaelic, Grian-stad an t-Samhraidh, meaning ‘the summer stopping of the sun’, a moment to honour the sun’s life-giving energy, celebrate abundance, and welcome the fullness of the growing season.

Even in our busy modern lives, there is something meaningful in marking these seasonal turning points and reconnecting with the natural rhythms around us.

Scent can also play a part in these moments, helping us feel grounded and present. The wild, botanical notes found in Thistle & Bog’s blends feel especially fitting at this time of year, inspired by Scotland’s landscapes and natural heritage.

Happy Birthday, Greencity Wholefoods!

Back in 1989, when we were finding our feet, Greencity was there to help us get started. More than three decades later, we’re still proud to be working together.

As fellow worker cooperatives, we share the same belief that business can be about more than profit – it’s about people, community, and working together to make a positive difference.

Thank you for the friendship, support, and cooperation over the years. Here’s to 48 fantastic years and an even bigger 50th just around the corner! We’ll definitely be there for the party... should an invitation happen to come our way. 😉
