Just published in Psychology Today! We are very excited to share our latest article: Why Traumatic Memories Feel Like They’re Happening Right Now – written by Ruth Lanius, Lauren Rudolph, and Breanne Kearney. This article was recognized as an Essential Read in Trauma.

Traumatic memories often feel as though they’re unfolding in the present rather than remaining in the past. In this article, we explain our recent research that helps explain why.

You will learn:
🧠 Why the brains of people with PTSD may not be updating to safety.
🧠 What is unique about this study compared to other studies that have been done
🧠 How PTSD disrupts communication between survival and reflective brain regions, altering danger and safety signals.
🧠 How these findings point toward treatments that help the brain reconnect and feel safe again.
