Kacper, has Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) and comes to see me for scar therapy. Despite being in constant pain, supported by his family he lives a very full life including participating in karate, and afterschool dance club. He always attends clinic with a smile, is polite and has a wicked sense of humour. His skin sensitivity often results in episodes where he becomes very ticklish meaning treatment sessions become full of laughter.
Epidermolysis bullosa is the name for a group of rare inherited skin disorders that cause the skin to become very fragile. Any trauma or friction to the skin can cause painful blisters.
Symptoms include:
skin that blisters easily,
blisters on the hands and soles of the feet,
thickened skin that may be scarred or change colour over time,
thickening of the skin and nails
This weekend kacper’s mum is running the london marathon for the charity DEBRA who support families living with EB. Please read Iwona’s story here and if you have a few pennies spare support this wonderful charity.
