Turns out, I might have been a little too quick to decide who I was šŸ¤”

ā€œI’m not creativeā€ was a belief I’d carried for as long as I can remember. And because I’d defined creativity so narrowly, I didn’t really notice all the ways I was being creative.

It got me thinking about how often we do this with ourselves, and being our own worst critic.

Sometimes these ideas sound like facts when actually, they’re beliefs we’ve picked up along the way.

Truth is, beliefs can be questioned ā¤ļø

So, what’s something you’ve decided you’re ā€œjust notā€ and have you ever stopped to question whether it’s actually true? šŸ•µšŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

I was having a conversation about people pleasing recently and used a metaphor to explain it.

Then I went home and apparently decided this metaphor needed:

— a storyline
— character development
— a broken kettle
— an unreasonable amount of tea
— and an entirely unnecessary subplot involving matcha.

My childhood creative writing self is very happy šŸ˜‚

A lesson I have learned from Luna… 🐶

Is how quickly as humans, we dismiss a need.

Sometimes we wait until we are exhausted, when things feel unmanageable, or until we have tried every other avenue…

Even then, we may think: ā€œmaybe it’s not that badā€ 🄓

But support doesn’t have to be a last resort…sometimes it’s for when you are tired of carrying everything alone šŸ«‚

If you’ve been thinking about therapy but keep talking yourself out of reaching out, that might be something worth exploring 🐾

A hesitation I hear about therapy is that people think they need to know exactly what they want to talk about, what symptoms they have, what they think they need...

But the reality is, therapy doesn’t require that of you. Many people come to therapy because they DON’T know what they need to talk about!

They know something doesn’t feel quite right, but not sure what.

They know they’re overthinking more than they’d like, but can’t stop for some reason.

They know they’re exhausted from holding everything together, but keep trying anyway.

They know they don’t feel like themselves anymore, but they can’t neatly explain why.

And that’s actually sometimes the point...you don’t need to organise your thoughts before coming to therapy 🧩

You don’t need a perfectly rehearsed explanation, one obvious problem, or a clear starting point.
Part of my role as a therapist is helping you make sense of what’s been feeling messy šŸŒ€

Together, we’ll begin to understand the patterns, identify what’s keeping things going, and work out where you’d like things to be different.

You don’t need to have all the answers before you reach out, sometimes figuring it all out is where therapy šŸ’›

Finding the right therapist isn’t just about finding someone qualified…

It’s about finding someone you feel comfortable with.

Someone you can be honest with. Someone who helps you make sense of what’s going on, gently challenges you when you’re stuck, and gives you practical tools to help you move forward šŸ› ļø

Every therapist works differently, and that’s a good thing. It means you get to choose someone whose approach feels like the right fit for you!

If you’ve been wondering whether therapy could help, I hope this gives you a little insight into what it’s might be like to work together.

And if you found yourself nodding along as you swiped through this carousel… I’d love to hear from you ā¤ļø

Not every therapist works in the same way, and not every approach suits every person.

When I first stepped into the role of being a therapist, I remember in my training it was told:

ā€œThere is no better therapeutic approach than the rapport between the therapist and the clientā€

And after years of working with many different people…I couldn’t agree MORE!

This is why it’s so important to do your research in your therapist before you pick one…ask yourself:

1. Do I like their approach?
2. Do I feel like I could trust this therapist?
3. Do I think we would get along in the therapy room?

That’s a pretty good place to start ā¤ļø

One of the most common misconceptions I hear is:

ā€œIsn’t CBT and counselling all the same?ā€ šŸ¤”

They’re both valuable forms of therapy, but they both have different aims and way of working.

Neither is better than the other… they simply suit different people, goals, and reasons for coming to therapy in the first place! 🧠

Figuring out which one you need may actually be the key šŸ”‘ as to why you feel ā€œstuckā€ or precious forms of therapy haven’t felt like they have worked šŸ’”

If you’re unsure which approach might be right for you, feel free to get in touch! šŸ’¬

I’m always happy to help you decide, even when CBT isn’t the best fit šŸ™ŒšŸ»

If you’re struggling to sit still, it might not be your body that needs attention šŸ”

Your body might be on the sofa, but your mind is running a marathon… šŸ›‹ļø + šŸƒā€ā™‚ļø = 🫩

You don’t need more rest. You need your mind to join your body there šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļøšŸ§

Many people come to therapy already very self aware…

They know what’s happening, my job isn’t always just to help people notice that bit though šŸ¤”

The challenge is often changing what happens next, yes you may be self aware… but then what?!

CBT isn’t just about understanding patterns.
It’s about learning how to respond differently to them šŸ”¬ šŸ•µšŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Many people think confidence means knowing exactly what to say, and saying the right thing šŸ’¬

But confidence often develops from learning you can handle situations without perfect preparation šŸ•µšŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

If you find yourself mentally rehearsing conversations, presentations or meetings over and over, it can be worth asking:

Am I preparing for the situation?

Or am I trying to remove uncertainty?

They’re not always the same thing.

Sometimes the most useful experiment is allowing yourself to speak before you feel completely ready šŸ¦‹
