We've been asked to share some important information from Suffolk Constabulary Official Page

Suffolk Constabulary will be deploying Live Facial Recognition in Lowestoft town centre and the area around First Light Festival on Saturday 20th June.

The technology will operate within a Zone of Recognition, and where possible officers will be available to provide information and answer questions before people enter the area.

People do not have to walk through the zone if they do not wish to, and alternative routes will be available that do not pass through the Zone of Recognition.

The system only checks faces against a specific watchlist of people wanted by police, or people who may pose a risk to the public. If there is no match, the image is deleted immediately and not kept, and the watchlist and related live deployment data are removed from the system after the deployment in line with police policy.

Bury Abbey Rotary Club Celebrates Record-Breaking Charity Fundraising

On June 2nd, the Bury Abbey Rotary Club hosted a vibrant celebration evening at the historic Guildhall, coinciding with Volunteers Week, to honour their remarkable charity fundraising achievements for the 2025/2026 year. The club proudly announced that they raised an impressive £80,000, with over £40,000 generated from the popular Classic Car Show and £29,000 from the St Edmund’s Day Dinner.

The event was a gathering of club members and representatives from the 25 charities that have benefitted from the club's generous contributions. Sponsored by Ashtons Legal, the evening featured refreshments and provided a lively atmosphere for networking and collaboration.

Melanie Lesser, President of Bury Abbey Rotary, expressed the club's unwavering commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

“We have been celebrating the club’s 20th Anniversary this year and are delighted that the club has grown in members from 15 and now boasts over 45 members and growing each year. We are excited to host a variety of fundraising events in the next 12 months, including the Classic Car Show, a golf day, a black-tie St Edmunds Day Dinner, and an online auction. We also support international projects including End Polio Now and the purchase of Shelter Boxes" she shared.

Alan Brown, Chair of Community Service and Hayley Coull Vice President took the attendees through a journey of twenty years of fundraising highlighting the many projects that have been undertaken over the years with two rules - Serve the Community and have fun doing it!

It's the 2026 Men’s World Cup and there’s one question on England and Scotland fans’ lips: is it coming home? ⚽

IOHO, the real winner for blind and partially sighted fans is the accessible broadcasts. Huge thanks to BBC and ITV for making it happen!

While we wait for kick-off, here’s what we know so you can watch accessible broadcasts of Scotland and England’s group matches:

1. BBC will give fans an option to tune in to alternative commentary provided by Radio 5 Live, on all matches shown on BBC One.
2. ITV will provide live audio description for their matches.
3. To access either BBC’s alternative commentary, or ITV’s audio description, press the AD button on your remote control to tune in.

What a fantastic day!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our Suffolk Sight Equipment and Information Day. We welcomed over 100 people through the doors.

We were also delighted to welcome Ipswich Mayor, Councillor Pat Bruce-Browne, whose support helped make the day even more special.

It was wonderful that so many people come together to explore the latest sight loss equipment, access information and advice, and connect with organisations offering support across Suffolk.

A special mention to all of our exhibitors, volunteers, and everyone who took part on the day. Your support and enthusiasm helped make the event such a success.

What you can expect from the day:
You will have the chance to try out the latest equipment and technology which is specifically designed for people with a visual impairment.

We will be joined by some of the UK’s leading suppliers who will provide live demonstrations of magnifiers, screen readers, daily living aids and lamps. Participants can experience first-hand how these tools can enhance their independence.

The event is suitable for someone with a visual impairment, if you are a family member, carer or friend of someone with sight loss, or are a low vision specialist.

This is a free event, and the location is fully accessible. We do hope you can join us, please share with anyone who may benefit.
