Orthoptist Mary runs visual screening clinics for children under five across Ipswich and surrounding communities.

By using specialist camera technology, she can quickly identify treatable eye conditions and spot whether children may need glasses.

With clinics available in Ipswich, Woodbridge, Saxmundham, Felixstowe, East Bergholt and Stowmarket, families can access care closer to home.

Early screening is vital, as many eye conditions can be successfully treated in childhood, helping children get the best possible start in life.

Recently, Mary assessed a four-year-old, for whom one of their parents has an eye condition, in just 20 minutes.

After checking the child's vision, 3D sight and eye health, she was pleased to find the child's eyesight was normal and was able to provide advice for future eye checks.

Our amazing Firewalkers have raised an incredible £6,000! 🔥

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who took part in our Firewalk on 10 October to raise money for Suffolk Sight.

Walking across hot coals takes courage, determination and a willingness to face your fears - our fantastic Firewalkers certainly did just that.

Tying in with World Mental Health Day, the event was a powerful reminder of the importance of mental wellbeing, facing challenges and having the right support when life feels difficult.

The incredible £6,000 raised will fund 120 counselling sessions, helping our beneficiaries to access valuable emotional support as they navigate the challenges that sight loss can bring.

We are so proud of every single person who took on this challenge.

One of our Firewalkers commented "I wanted to do something outside of my comfort zone and prove to myself that I can do things. It was a brilliant experience and I felt on top of the world"

National Braille Week, 12–18 October

This National Braille Week, we’re celebrating the importance of Braille and the many ways technology can help people with sight loss access information and stay connected.

Come along to the HumanWareTechnology Drop-In Session on Thursday 15 October!

It’s a chance to have a look at the latest technology and equipment from HumanWare, ask questions and find out how it could support you in everyday life.

Suffolk Sight

👁️🎨 Suffolk Sight Juniors Club is a monthly social group in Stowmarket for visually impaired children and young people aged 5 to 25 and their families. Each session has a fun theme such as Music, Art or Animals, giving everyone a chance to join in creative activities and enjoy time together. 🌟

Families can share advice, make friends and feel supported while children take part in activities that build confidence and connection.
