Turning the BIG 39+1 wasn’t the bestest of feelings but it’s a week post my birthday and I suppose 39+1 isn’t so bad just don’t call me 40! ❤️

The end of another week.
Today was the very first time I’ve not panicked, had a racing heart or felt dizzy in theatre.
This year is all about challenging myself and pushing myself into situations that are uncomfortable. Exposure and experience are the only things that will allow me to get past being scared of theatre. I’m so proud of myself, I scrubbed in, led the care, took the baby, recognised deviations and applied oxygen myself, communicated with all of the multidisciplinary team with far more confidence. Holding the mask on myself, onto her little face was very different from the dummy babies we practice on. Today reminded me of why I’m doing this I’ve left my shift pretty happy with myself compared to how I felt two weeks ago 😊

I picked the worst scenario out of 6 which was neonatal resuscitation last week and the results are in. I’m certain i will never see this grade again so I’m going to be proud of myself and post it. Well done me getting 96% 😊 and well done to the rest of the cohort 🥳

When your plan doesn’t go to plan in the birthing world.
I ended up working on every maternity floor yesterday starting with the birthing pool and ending up in theatre in an emergency and what a shift.

Yesterday was my first time to scrub in 😬 wear the sterile gown and gloves and wait patiently to be passed the freshly born baby. Was I sh****ng myself inside? YES! That was only my third time in theatre so it’s still unfamiliar but once this warm little person was in my arms I felt a comfort and carried out all that was needed.
Undoubtedly becoming a Midwife is the most challenging experience I have voluntarily put myself into, endlessly learning every single shift to points of I cannot absorb anymore information today but I still keep going back!
What shall tomorrow bring?

I’m a busy mum, a busy student midwife always bloody busy. Rushing here there and everywhere until I was caught out today. School run time and we couldn’t find the car keys. I looked everywhere but couldn’t find them anywhere so we went to wait for a bus. Then I got a text “Found Them” I told my youngest to run and get in the car whilst I grabbed the keys from the front door where my other daughter was waiting. Yes! I have them let’s go. I ran super fast for about 3 seconds then F**K! My ankle twisted and I heard and felt the clunk and I fell like a tonne of bricks onto my knee my other knee. Mobile went flying the keys went flying and I realised extremely quickly I couldn’t move my foot. Two strangers came to my rescue. One daughter come running out of the car once she was made aware and I was helped into the strangers car. I instantly knew it was broke and this meant no placement. I’ve been juggling so much in my personal life alongside my degree which I adore and love it finally came to a head. Literally have no choice now I have to slow down, can’t drive for god knows how long and will miss 5 whole weeks on delivery suite all because I was rushing AGAIN plus clinical recovery 😓. The pressure is real. Find out tomorrow if I need surgery or a cast for the fractured ankle??? Excuse the hairy legs I wasn’t expecting to show them off today 🤪

Thrombosis remains a major cause of death in the UK yet many people have little or no understanding about the causes and effects of thrombosis, and how it can be prevented. It is also the leading direct cause of maternal mortality in the UK. Most commonly, blood clots form in the deep veins of the leg, these are known as deep vein thrombosis or DVT.
