🧘♀️ Deepening Your Practice: Body Scan, Breathwork, and Gassho Meditation
To fully align with the powerful illumination of the upcoming Strawberry Moon, dedicating time to a structured grounding practice can help you process heightened emotions and clear any stagnant energy.
Here is a step-by-step guide to preparing your mind, body, and spirit for release using a gentle body scan, intentional breathwork, and Gassho meditation.
🌿 Step 1: The Grounding Body Scan
Before shifting your attention to your breath, use a body scan to locate where your physical body might be holding onto stress, tension, or blocked emotional energy.
Get Comfortable: Sit with a straight spine or lie down comfortably. Close your eyes and take a deep, natural breath.
Crown to Root Awareness: Bring your awareness to the very top of your head. Slowly let your attention drift downward—through your face, jaw, and neck—noticing any areas of tightness.
Soften and Release: Drop your shoulders away from your ears. Move your awareness down through your chest, your heart center, your belly, and all the way down to your hips and feet.
Locate the Tension: Simply notice where your body feels heavy or tense without trying to judge it. Acknowledge these spaces; you will use your breath in the next step to help them soften.
💨 Step 2: Sacred Breathwork (Pranayama)
Now that you are completely aware of your physical body, use your breath to signal to your nervous system that it is safe to relax and open up.
The Clearing Breath: Take a deep, slow inhalation through your nose, directing the air straight into any tight spaces you found during your body scan. Hold the breath at the top for a count of 3, then exhale fully and slowly through your mouth with a soft sigh. Repeat this 3 times to let go of immediate physical tension.
The 4-4-4-4 Box Breath: To balance your subtle energy channels, transition into box breathing. Inhale deeply through your nose for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 4 seconds, exhale smoothly through your nose for 4 seconds, and hold empty for 4 seconds.
Do this for a few rounds until your thoughts begin to quiet and your awareness shifts completely into the present moment.
🤲 Step 3: Entering Gassho Meditation
Gassho literally means "two hands coming together." It is a fundamental practice designed to quiet the mind, cultivate single-pointed focus, and place you in a state of deep gratitude.
The Hand Position: Bring your hands together in a prayer position directly in front of your chest, slightly touching your heart chakra. Keep your fingers pointing straight up. Your hands should be held just far enough away from your chest that your forearms are roughly parallel to the floor, allowing your posture to remain alert yet relaxed.
The Focal Point: Bring your entire awareness to the point where your two middle fingers meet. Whenever your mind naturally wanders—which it will—gently and without judgment bring your attention back to the physical sensation of those two fingertips touching.
The Movement of Energy: As you breathe naturally, feel the warmth generating between your palms, creating a closed circuit of peaceful, balanced energy moving through your arms and torso.
❤️ Step 4: Centering Your Heart
With your hands still in the Gassho position, it is time to drop your awareness deeper into your emotional center to prepare for full moon releasing.
Visualizing the Light: Shift your focus from your fingertips down into the space right behind your thumbs—your heart center. Visualize a soft, glowing light expanding there with every inhalation. Under the summer energy of the Strawberry Moon, you can imagine this light as a vibrant pink or a radiant green.
Connecting with Intentions: As you hold your attention here, ask your heart what it is holding onto that it no longer needs. Let any emotions, memories, or habits surface without trying to fix or change them.
The Heart Exhale: Use your breath to facilitate the release. Inhale sweetness and compassion directly into your heart space, and as you exhale through your nose, imagine blowing away the heavy layers, negative habits, or emotional baggage you are ready to surrender to the universe.
✨ Bringing It All Together
Spend 5 to 10 minutes in this space of breathing, focusing, and feeling. When you feel centered, gently bow your head to your hands to honor your practice, lower your hands to your lap, and transition directly into your full moon journaling or crystal cleansing rituals.
This complete practice creates the perfect, balanced container to receive the abundance and joy of the summer season! 🌕🙏
