Today Lisa attended Mencap’s Homes Not Hospitals Conference, marking 15 years since the shocking abuse at Winterbourne View was exposed.

It was inspiring to be surrounded by so many passionate people committed to creating a future where every person with a learning disability and every autistic person has a safe, suitable place to call home.

While progress has been made, the reality is that far too many people remain wrongly detained in mental health hospitals when they should be receiving the right support within their communities. That must change.

At Fairoak, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live with dignity, independence, and the support they need to thrive.💚

Thank you to everyone continuing to fight for a future where homes come before hospitals. 🏡

Vicki, JD and James recently travelled to Carlisle to complete Manual Handling and Asbestos Awareness training with BTP Construction Training.

Ongoing training is an important part of what we do, helping our team maintain the knowledge and confidence needed to work safely and effectively while supporting our tenants. 🏡

A big thank you to Spike for delivering an engaging and informative session. 👏

By investing in our team’s development, we’re continuing to build a safer and stronger future for everyone at Fairoak. 💚

Learning New Skills to Better Support Our Work

Our team recently took part in an AI refresher session with Uptake AI, building on the full day of training we completed before.

As technology continues to evolve, we’re keen to stay up to date with new tools and ways of working that can help us be more efficient, improve communication, and support the work we do every day. 🏡

Sessions like these give our team the opportunity to learn, ask questions, share ideas, and explore practical ways technology can support our goals as an organisation.

A big thank you to Uptake AI for another engaging and insightful session. 🚀

💚 £5,193 raised… and counting! 🔥

We’re incredibly proud to share that together, our community has now raised an amazing £5,193 for Friends of Fairoak through this year’s Keswick to Barrow sponsored walk 👣

From the walkers who took on up to 40 miles, to every person who donated, sponsored, supported, shared, or cheered the team on along the way… thank you. The encouragement from local businesses, friends, family, staff, tenants, and the wider community has meant so much 💚

These donations help us continue creating meaningful opportunities, activities, outings, celebrations and experiences for adults with learning disabilities and autism through Friends of Fairoak, helping people stay connected, build confidence, make memories and enjoy experiences they may not otherwise have access to.

Although the walk itself is now complete, fundraising is still open for a little longer, so if you would still like to support our team and tenants, you can still donate here:

Thank you again to everyone who has helped make this such a special achievement 🫶🏡

At Fairoak, we believe everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and represented.

Creating inclusive housing and support starts with understanding the diverse communities we serve and making sure every voice matters. 💚

It’s great to see organisations across the sector taking steps towards greater equality, diversity, and inclusion through initiatives like the EDI data tool from the National Housing Federation.

Together, we can help build a more inclusive future for social housing. 🏡✨

🗣️ YOU SAID, WE DID ✨

Our tenants asked for a whiteboard so they could stay informed about communal cleaning, safety checks, and activities around the home… so we made it happen 👏

This week, tenant Miguel took the initiative to use it to organise a house meeting, even suggesting a location for everyone to meet ☕️

It’s great to see tenants feeling empowered to have a voice in their own homes and helping shape day to day life together 💚

Our Fairoak staff team took part in a brilliant first aid course with Kentdale First Aid Training and came away with lots of valuable knowledge that could make a real difference in an emergency.

From learning CPR and how to use an AED (defibrillator), to practising the recovery position, bandaging, and helping someone who is choking, the day was packed with hands on learning and practical skills ⛑️

(All while wearing green for Mental Health Awareness Day!)

At Fairoak, creating safe and supportive environments for our tenants is always a priority, so opportunities like this are incredibly important. A huge thank you to the fantastic trainer for making the course engaging and enjoyable throughout! 💚

Today, our Fairoak team wore green for Mental Health Awareness while taking part in Emergency First Aid at Work training ⛑️💚

Mental health is just as important as physical health, but often much harder to spot. Someone can look completely fine on the outside while quietly struggling with stress, anxiety, loneliness, or burnout.

That’s why awareness matters. Checking in with people, creating supportive environments, and encouraging open conversations can make a real difference, especially for those who may not feel comfortable asking for help.

We’re proud to be part of a community that values kindness and wellbeing for both our tenants and our team 🫂
