One of the most rewarding parts of physiotherapy is the relationships we build with our clients and their families along the way.

Recently, after successfully discharging one of our clients, Annie was presented with this beautiful hand-crocheted blanket as a thank-you gift.

While seeing our clients achieve their goals is always the greatest reward, gestures like this mean the world to our team. They remind us just how much trust our clients place in us and how privileged we are to be part of their journey.

A huge thank you to the client and family for this incredibly thoughtful gift. Annie absolutely loves it, and it has already found a special place in her home. 💙

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey🌟

✨Big Jilly Update!✨

When we first met Jilly, she was unable to stand without maximal assistance and lacked much of the strength, balance and confidence needed to support herself upright. Since then, through incredible hard work and determination, she has gone from strength to strength.

Just two weeks ago, Jilly was practicing this same balloon exercise in a easier standing position and still needed occasional support to maintain her balance.

Fast forward to yesterday’s session… and here she is balancing independently in a step stance while passing the balloon behind herself, a much bigger challenge for her balance, coordination, and postural control.

The work Jilly is putting in during therapy, at school, and at home with her mum Karen is making an incredible difference to both her balance and confidence.

And next session… 👀 we introduce the crutches.

Exciting times ahead for our superstar Jilly ⭐

Keeping Our Skills Sharp!

The other day, Dionne led a manual handling refresher session for the Cortex team.

Safe handling is a vital part of what we do, particularly when working with people with neurological conditions, reduced mobility, and complex rehabilitation needs. Regular training helps ensure we continue to provide the highest standard of rehab while keeping both our clients and our team safe.

From transfers and mobility practice, good manual handling technique is essential in supporting our clients to achieve their goals safely and effectively.

A big thank you to Dionne for delivering such an informative and practical session for the team. Continuous learning is a key part of ensuring we provide the best possible support to every client we work with.

“I just don’t want to go back into hospital…”

It’s something we hear more often than you might think.

After a difficult hospital experience, whether that’s a long stay, complications, or just the emotional toll of being unwell, it’s completely normal to feel anxious about going back. Even for something as simple as a check-up or a day procedure, that fear can be very real.

And it’s important to say… that feeling is valid.

But at the same time, avoiding medical support when it’s needed can sometimes lead to bigger problems down the line. Small concerns left unchecked can become more complex, and early intervention is often what makes the biggest difference.

It’s about finding that balance, acknowledging the fear, but not letting it stop you from getting the care you deserve.

If you’re feeling unsure:

🟢 Speak to someone you trust about it
🟢 Ask questions so you feel more in control
🟢 Take someone with you for support if you can

You’re not alone in feeling this way, and there are professionals out there who want to help you, not just physically, but in making the experience feel as comfortable as possible.

Looking after your health is always worth it

This is exactly what it’s all about 👇

We’ve been working with Mrs Black for some time now, and thanks to our recent partnership with Thistle Help, it’s been brilliant to see her getting back out and enjoying herself again.

Rehabilitation around mobility can take time, and while we work towards those long-term goals, it’s so important to remember there are options out there in the meantime to help people regain a level of independence and get back to the things they enjoy, and even better when that means getting out in the sunshine ☀️

We couldn’t have partnered with a better team.

Moan the Mrs Black 💪!!!!

🧠 MS Awareness Week🧠

This week is all about raising awareness, sharing experiences, and supporting those living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

MS affects everyone differently, and for many, the journey can feel uncertain, especially in the early stages. That’s why having access to the right information, support, and people who understand can make such a difference.

That’s also why we wanted to highlight the upcoming Newly Diagnosed event in partnership with MS Society Scotland and the Ayrshire & Arran group. It’s a relaxed, no-pressure session designed specifically for those who are newly diagnosed (or awaiting confirmation), as well as family members and carers.

💬 Real conversations
💬 Practical advice
💬 A chance to connect with others going through similar experiences

We’re also incredibly proud that Dionne, our Clinical Lead, will be part of the panel, supporting attendees and sharing her experience in neurological rehabilitation.

📅 Monday 1st June
📍 Riverside Hotel, Irvine
⏰ Arrive from 4:30pm

If you or someone close to you is navigating an MS diagnosis, this could be a really valuable space to learn, ask questions, or simply listen.

MS Awareness Week is about reminding people that support is out there, and no one has to go through it alone.

Recently, we’ve heard from a few of our clients that they were told something along the lines of “after the first 3–6 months of rehab, you won’t make much more progress.”

It’s understandable why people might believe this, because the first few months after a stroke are often when the quickest improvements happen. But the idea that recovery stops after this period is simply not true.

The brain has an incredible ability to adapt and relearn through a process called neuroplasticity. This is the brain’s way of forming new connections and pathways to help regain lost function. When part of the brain is affected by a stroke, other areas can begin to take on some of those roles, especially when the body is challenged through the right rehabilitation and repetition.

This means progress can continue months and even years after a stroke, particularly when people stay active, keep practicing movements, and continue with targeted therapy.

We regularly see people improve their walking, balance, strength and arm function long after they were told they had reached their “full potential.” Sometimes the changes are big, sometimes they’re small, but every step forward matters.

Recovery after a stroke isn’t defined by a fixed timeline. With the right guidance, persistence, and support, the brain can keep learning far longer than many people realise.

💙 Never assume progress has to stop.

Every journey is different… but every story matters.

We’re proud to introduce our new Client Stories page on our website, a space where we share the real journeys of the people we’ve had the privilege to work with.

From first steps after a stroke, to regaining independence after life-changing injuries, these stories highlight the challenges, the setbacks, and the incredible progress that can happen with the right support.

These aren’t just outcomes… they’re real people, real effort, and real determination.

If you’re going through something similar, or supporting someone who is, we hope these stories give you a bit of belief that progress is always possible.
