Why Ear Syringing Isn’t Used Anymore (According to NICE - National Institute of Clinical Excellence)

Is it just an "age spot" or something more? 🔍

At EarForYou South Devon an ear wax check is never just an ear wax check. As a Practice Nurse, I’m trained to look at the whole ear. This patient came in for a routine visit, but two areas raised a red flag:

🚩 The Red Patch (top of the ear): This "gritty" red area on the helix is common for sun-damaged skin. It could be Actinic Keratosis (pre-cancerous) or a Squamous Cell Carcinoma. On the ear’s thin skin, we don't take chances!

🚩 The Dark Mole (base of the ear, within the co**ha): Tucked away where the patient can’t see it is a pigmented lesion. Is it a harmless mole or a Melanoma? A GP referral to Dermatology is the only way to be sure.

The takeaway? Don't ignore a spot that won't heal or a mole that's changing. Early detection is everything.
