Guess what we're having for lunch?
I absolutely adore asparagus season, it's a shame it lasts for such a short period of time.
You really can't beat homegrown. The gorgeous sweet, delicious, nutty flavour that these asparagus spears have... oh my, they are just divine.
By the way, I'm not going to be sharing any other than with Lorna.
What I also love about seasonal eating is how nature just seems to know.
I have no idea how it works, it's completely mind-boggling, but the foods that grow naturally at different times of year often seem to provide exactly the nutrients we need for the season we're in.
So not only do you get to look forward to food, rather than it always being on tap, but nature is doing its very best for you at the same time.
Why not have something you absolutely adore, that's gorgeous to eat, that you've been looking forward to, so you appreciate it all the more... and at the same time get the maximum nutritional benefit from it too?
Take asparagus as an example...
🌱 Folate supports energy production and cell renewal, perfect as we're spending more time outdoors and naturally becoming more active.
🌱 Vitamin C supports our immune system and collagen production, helping our skin and tissues as we're exposed to more sunshine and outdoor living.
🌱 Prebiotic fibre feeds our beneficial gut bacteria and supports digestion, just when many of us are naturally moving away from heavier winter foods and towards lighter meals.
🌱 Potassium helps maintain hydration and fluid balance as the weather warms up and we start losing more fluids through perspiration.
🌱 Glutathione, often referred to as the body's master antioxidant, supports the liver's natural detoxification processes and helps protect our cells from everyday wear and tear.
🌱 Vitamin K supports healthy bones and tissue repair, helping us stay strong and active as we get out and about more.
Nature really is pretty clever isn't it.
Sadly, asparagus season will be drawing to a close for us in around 10 days' time, but there are plenty of other seasonal foods on their way and I'm already beginning to look forward to those too.
What's your favourite food at this time of year?
