⚡ Why does the plasma follow my fingers?

My high-frequency plasma device first increases the voltage. The capacitors store this electrical energy, and the spark gap releases it in rapid bursts.

These high-frequency pulses travel to the electrode inside the sealed bulb, creating a fast-changing electric field. This energises the low-pressure gas inside and knocks electrons free, turning part of the gas into plasma.

As the electrons collide with the gas atoms, energy is released as the bright pink and purple light you can see.

When I place my hand on the glass, my body changes and concentrates the electric field at that point. The glowing plasma streamers are drawn towards my fingers, making them brighter and more focused. It looks like miniature lightning following my hand!

The plasma remains safely inside the sealed bulb. It is mainly the changing high frequency electric field—not the glowing gas itself—that passes through the glass.
