If you need a reminder that you’re doing an amazing job, and that it’s okay to need time for yourself too… this is it 🫶🏼
Motherhood asks so much of us.
Becoming a mother for the second time has changed me in so many ways. But this time around, more than ever, I’ve found myself learning that two feelings can exist at the same time.
“I can adore being a mum and still miss the woman I was before motherhood.”
I am so deeply in love with my life and my children. I love co-sleeping, breastfeeding, baby wearing, home educating and attachment parenting. I wouldn’t change the life we’ve created.
BUT, I’m also learning that loving motherhood doesn’t mean I have to disappear inside it.
I still have needs. I still need space, rest, connection, creativity and time that belongs to me. And sometimes making space for those things can feel incredibly difficult and even bring up guilt. But needing to be nurtured too isn’t selfish. It’s a basic human need.
I’m learning that when I take care of myself, I can show up for my children in ways I simply can’t when I’m depleted, overwhelmed and overstimulated.
And perhaps the biggest lesson this time around?
Asking for help comes so much more easily to me the second time. I don’t need to do it all alone.
So if you’re a mum who absolutely adores her children, but sometimes craves a little space to breathe, to be yourself, or simply to have nobody need anything from you for a while…
I see you.
You’re not ungrateful.
You’re not a bad mum.
You’re human.
You’re allowed to love your children deeply and still make room for yourself.
