✨ A conversation that matters… ✨

Time spent with Katie, daughter of our beautiful Ange 💛

Katie spoke openly and honestly about what it was like growing up with a mum living with Young-onset dementia…
And the truth is — it wasn’t always easy to understand.

As a young person, she didn’t have the words, the tools, or the emotional capacity to process what was happening.
How could she? She was just trying to be a child in something that didn’t make sense.

Now, with time, awareness, and reflection…
She carries feelings of guilt and shame for how she responded back then.

But here’s what we want people to understand:

This wasn’t a lack of love.
This was a lack of support, understanding, and guidance.

Children in these situations are not difficult…
They are doing their best in something deeply confusing and painful.

Katies courage to speak her truth is powerful.
Because it shines a light on something so many families silently carry.

💭 If you were a child trying to understand something even adults struggle with…
Would you really expect yourself to get it “right”?

There is no blame here.
Only compassion.
Only understanding.
Only space to heal.

And today… that’s exactly what we created 🤍

At Me2U Centre’s we believe that dementia is everyone’s business.

Dementia does not only affect the person diagnosed.
It impacts families, friendships, relationships, workplaces, communities, and generations.

Too often, fear and misunderstanding can create silence, distance, or judgement. But when we begin to understand dementia more deeply, we create space for compassion, patience, dignity, and connection.

Awareness matters.

Because behind every diagnosis is a human being with a life story, emotions, memories, fears, humour, love, and value.

As a community, we have the opportunity to move away from stigma and toward understanding. To replace judgement with empathy. To recognise that small acts of patience, kindness, reassurance, and inclusion can completely change someone’s experience.

We are passionate about continuing to raise awareness, support families, and help create dementia-friendly communities where people feel seen, heard, and valued.

Together, we can replace fear with understanding and isolation with connection.

Today feels really special 💛

Yesterday Katie invited me to take part in an interview, her mum Ange attended our centre for years. She spoke so openly about her journey… being just a teenager when her mum was diagnosed with dementia, trying to navigate something so big at such a young age.

What she shared with us really stayed…

That it wasn’t just the day-to-day support that mattered
It was the moments in between
The phone calls
The reassurance
The fact that no matter the day — even Christmas Day — someone was always there

That’s what it means to truly hold people.

Today we also remember her beautiful mum, Ange on her birthday 🤍
Wishing you the happiest heavenly birthday Ange

You were, and always will be, part of our Me2U family
Held in our hearts, always

This work goes far beyond a service
It’s connection, it’s care, it’s being there when it matters most
