✨ Reiki. What is it? ✨

You've probably heard of it.

But what actually is Reiki?

🌿 A gentle Japanese energy practice
🌿 A space for relaxation and rest
🌿 An opportunity to pause and reconnect with yourself

During Reiki, you're fully clothed while I gently place my hands on or just above the body.

No fixing.
No forcing.
No expectations.

Some people feel warmth.
Some feel tingling.
Some notice their minds becoming quieter.

And some people simply have the best nap they've had all week. 😴

There is no right way to experience Reiki.

Because Reiki isn't about fixing you.

You aren't broken.

Sometimes you just need somewhere safe to stop for a moment.

And perhaps that's why Reiki found me when I needed it most. 🤍

If you've been feeling like you need to:

✨ slow down
✨ breathe
✨ reconnect
✨ create a little more calm within

Maybe this is your invitation.

No pressure. Just a conversation.

Reset. Recharge. Reconnect.

🌿 5 signs stress is showing up before burnout…

I know these signs well.

Not because I read them in a book.

Because in 2022, I lived them.

I had reached a point where stress had become my normal.

I was functioning.
I was carrying on.
I was doing what needed to be done.

Until eventually, my body and mind said enough.

That experience changed the way I see stress.

Because burnout rarely arrives overnight.

There are usually whispers first.

Little signs that something isn't quite right.

And sometimes we're so busy getting through the day that we don't hear them.

So here are 5 things to gently look out for — not another thing to add to your to-do list, but simply a reason to pause and check in with yourself. 🤍

✨ 1. You're exhausted… but you can't properly rest.

Your body is tired, but your mind won't switch off.

✨ 2. Everything feels like an effort.

Even the smallest things suddenly feel overwhelming.

✨ 3. You're more emotional or irritable than usual.

You're snapping. You're tearful. Little things feel much bigger than they normally would.

✨ 4. Your body is asking you to pay attention.

Tight shoulders. Clenched jaw. Headaches. Restlessness. Poor sleep.

Sometimes the body speaks before we're ready to listen.

✨ 5. You're functioning… but you're not really living.

You're getting through the days.

Doing the things.

Showing up for everyone else.

But somewhere along the way, you've stopped checking in with you.

And this is the bit I really want you to hear…

You don't have to wait until you're burnt out before you decide you deserve rest.

You don't have to reach breaking point.

You don't have to earn it.

You are allowed to pause before your body makes the decision for you.

Because sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is notice the whisper…

before it becomes a shout. 🌿

So, just for a moment today…

Breathe.

Pause.

Check in.

And ask yourself:

"What do I need right now?"

Then, if you can…

Listen to the answer. 🤍

✨ Nurturing your soul starts with noticing when it needs nurturing.

With love,
Carrie x

One Day

There's a day in my week that belongs to no one but us.
No bookings. No content calendar. No "quick call, five minutes." Just a door closed on everything that isn't Raj, isn't Teddy, isn't home.

I used to think being fully present for my clients meant being available to everything, always. What I've learned running Atman Healing is the opposite: I only have something real to give them if I've first given something real to us.

So one day a week, I step away completely.

What it gives me — a nervous system that actually gets to rest, not just pause between tasks. Space to be Carrie, not "the practitioner," for a few hours. It's the same principle I teach in every Reiki session: you can't pour from an empty vessel, and you can't be present for others in a life you're not present in yourself.

What it gives Raj — the undistracted version of me. Not the one answering messages under the table, but the one who's actually there, actually listening, actually laughing at the same joke twice.

What it gives Teddy — everything, honestly. He doesn't care about boundaries or burnout theory. He knows the difference between a walk where my phone's in my pocket and one where it's in a drawer at home. Slow, unhurried, sniffing every hedge — that's the whole of his happiness, and mine too, when I let it be.

One day a week, the diary rests,
No client calls, no requests —
Just Raj's hand in mine, unrushed,
And Teddy's paw, and gardens hushed.
I give myself the gift of slow,
So love has room enough to grow.
Not stepping back — but stepping in,
To where the fullest life begins.

Family isn't the thing I step away from my work for. It's the thing the work is for.

✨🌿 Perhaps Reiki Found You For A Reason… 🌿✨

Three years ago, I had no idea where my journey was taking me.
I knew I needed something different.
I just didn’t know what that something was.
Then Reiki found me. ✨
Or perhaps, looking back…
I found Reiki when I needed it most. 🤍
What started with curiosity became something much bigger.
A journey of healing.
Of learning.
Of trusting.
Of reconnecting with myself.
And now, three years later…
✨ I’m a Usui Reiki Master Teacher. ✨
Honestly, that feels pretty bloody special.
Because this isn’t just another qualification.
It feels like a full-circle moment.
Something that became such an important part of my journey is now something I can share with others. 🌿
And maybe… you’re feeling that little nudge too?
Perhaps you’ve been curious about Reiki.
Perhaps you keep seeing it pop up.
Perhaps you’ve experienced a treatment and thought:
“I wonder what it would be like to learn this myself?”
Or maybe you simply have that quiet feeling inside…
“I think I’m meant to explore this.”
Listen to it. 💜
You don’t need to know where your journey will take you.
You don’t need to have all the answers.
You just need to take the first step.

🌿 This October, I’m opening my doors for a small, intimate 2-day Usui Reiki Level 1 course.
✨ Only 4 spaces available.
A space to learn Reiki, explore your own connection with it, ask questions, slow down and begin your journey in a supportive, nurturing environment.
Maybe Reiki has found you for a reason.
Maybe, just maybe…
this is your time to say yes to yourself. ✨

💜 If something inside you is saying “tell me more”, send me a message.
No pressure.
No expectations.
Just a conversation.

🌿 Perhaps this is where your Reiki journey begins.

Some of the best things start with rest.

That's why Macmillan's work means so much to us — because care, comfort, and community aren't luxuries. They're essentials.

On 25th September, we're opening The Toucoir for a Macmillan Coffee Morning. Coffee, cake, and a chance to give back.

Save the date. More soon.

Four years ago, I was a Care Coordinator. I loved the work, loved the people — but I was giving everything I had to everyone except myself. I didn't stop because I was told to. I stopped because I couldn't carry on the way I was going.

I gave myself 28 days of rest. No plan beyond that. Just space.

It was in that space that Reiki found me. Not as something to "add" to my life, but as something that quietly began to change how I moved through it. In October 2023, I completed my Reiki 1st Degree — and looking back, that was the moment Atman Healing really began, long before I had a business name or a treatment space.

Atman is Sanskrit for "true self." It's what the whole practice is built around — not escaping your life, but coming back to who you are underneath the noise of it.
This March, I completed my training to become a Reiki Master Teacher. This September's course is the very first one I'll be teaching since — which makes it feel like everything has come full circle. I wanted to start this series by sharing why this path matters so much to me, because I think a lot of you reading this are exactly where I was four years ago.

1st Degree enrolment is open now 🤍

Grief doesn't follow a timeline. 🕊️

Today is National Grief Awareness Day, 18 months on, and grief can still take my breath away.

Last year I lost both my boys, two weeks apart. Toucan first — we knew our time was running out, so we filled what was left with love and laughter, right until the day we'd promised him: forever and ever.
Then, two weeks later, with no warning — Gordon.

I grieved, and I grieved hard. But somewhere along the way, maybe subconsciously, I started feeling like I needed to prove I was strong.
And then there were the nights I couldn't hold it together — sobbing to Yungblud's Zombie, utterly inconsolable.

Reiki doesn't take grief away. It just gives me somewhere soft to land when it resurfaces.
18 months in or 18 days — there's no timeline. Be gentle with yourself today. 💜

I think I was always meant to do this work.
There was Bertie, my hamster who had a stroke, loved and cherished every single day. Then Benji, our first dog, eight weeks old and a whole summer spent helping him find his feet. I didn't have a word for what I was doing back then.
Now I do.
After completing my Reiki First Degree, I came home one evening to find Gordon bouncing around, full of joy. I sat on the floor. He settled beside me. Without thinking, I placed my hands on his chest.
From across the room, Raj looked up.
"You're doing it, aren't you? That Reiki thing."
From that evening on, Gordon asked for treatments — sitting close, offering parts of himself to the energy. His anxieties, once so heavy, softened. He became calmer, more at ease.
When Gordon and Toucan became palliative, Reiki was the one gift I could give them. The one way to feel useful when I felt so powerless.
Studying Animal Reiki formally took a year. But when I came to it, I came to it with both of them in my heart.
Every session I offer is a tribute to them. To Bertie and Benji too.
To every animal who ever taught me that love is its own kind of healing. 🐾

Rakhi reminds me that protection isn't always a thread on a wrist.

Sometimes it's the people who held space for me while I found my way back to myself.
The teacher who saw what I couldn't yet see in myself.
The partner who steadies me on the hard days.
My Sister Circle, who hold me up when I need it most.
The women in my dance class, cheering me on as I step outside my comfort zone.
Even the four-legged soul who reminds me to slow down.

We tie the people who protect our hearts closer to us — not always with a rakhi, but with gratitude, presence, and love.

Who are you tying close today? 🧵✨
