Good morning and happy Saturday 🔆.
I’ve been wanting to do a little series on weaning for you guys for quite some time now but this last month has been a bit hectic whilst we found our feet and routine with work, nursery, school etc, so social media had to take a bit of a back seat 😏.
I have lots of videos and photos in my highlights on first tastes, textures and ideas on what foods to begin with, so if you’re at the start of your I hope they help you ❤️.
Now that Theo is at nursery and becoming more independent, we are doing lots of practice on self feeding. A couple of months ago he was really going for it, having lots of finger foods, then completely lost interest 🤦🏻♀️. This can be completely normal and they will go through different phases so it’s important to be patient and take their cue. They will get there eventually!
The biggest things I have found help Theo with learning anything new is lots of role modelling and positive praise 🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼. Watch this vid and you’ll see how much he loves it 😂.
I’m not gonna lie, it’s a whole new level of mess, but totally worth it 💙. If you have some food on a plate yourself, role model the scooping food and taking the spoon to your mouth action. Even if your child doesn’t copy you the first few times, they do observe and take in that sequence.
When they eventually start taking the cutlery themselves, then lots of smiling and positive praise helps their little brain🧠 make the connection that what they are doing is good 👍🏻.
What has been your experience with self feeding? Did your little one just get it straight away? Or was some practice required? 🍽🥄🍴😋.
