At Origin Spinal Injury Care, we have been providing specialist live-in spinal injury care to adults across the UK since 2001. For the most part

, our clients are young adults, who are busy and active, both in work and socially. We provide fully managed, respite and long-term care, as well as a travel care service. We offer support to people who have been living with spinal injuries long-term, and those adapting to life with a spinal injury following spinal unit discharge. We're currently recruiting! We’re looking for both new and experienced live-in carers to join our team across the UK to help us bring spontaneity and freedom of life to adults living with a spinal cord injury. Whether this is your first care job, or you’ve been doing it for years, you’ll be fully supported by our experienced, established care management team, many of whom started their careers at Origin as live-in carers themselves. Care work with Origin isn’t care work as you know it; it’s your opportunity to transform someone’s life by assisting them to promote their independence, spontaneity and freedom of choice. No two clients are the same; this means there isn’t a ‘typical day’ for an Origin Personal Care Assistant. What each care assignment does have in common though, is that they’re all extremely rewarding, and you get the chance to make a real difference to people's lives.

📣 We are delighted to congratulate Origin client, Dave Shraga, on his appointment as Sheriff of Norwich.

Dave has been a valued client of Origin since 2011 and over the years we’ve come to know him as a highly independent and successful businessman, passionate advocate for accessibility and inclusion, and someone who is deeply committed to supporting his local community. Alongside the support of his PA, Tania Saldanha, Dave continues to inspire those around him with everything he achieves.

The role of Sheriff of Norwich is a historic and ceremonial position, with Dave representing the city at civic and public events, supporting local charities, and acting as an ambassador for Norwich throughout his term.

Dave recently shared photographs and a video from the appointment with the Origin team, and it was wonderful for us all to see this very special and well-deserved moment. 👏

Did you know, at Origin all new carers complete a CPD-certified induction: a one-week intensive course delivered at our HQ in Lancaster. It’s hands-on, thorough and designed to properly prepare you for the realities of specialist care. The course is widely regarded as industry leading, and it sets the standard for everything that follows.

From there, training doesn’t stop. We provide bespoke, consistent refresher sessions to keep knowledge current and confidence high.

Importantly, all of our training is provided free of charge. We invest in our team because well-trained carers deliver better, safer, more confident support.

I’m Gayle and I’m delighted to be joining the team here at Origin. 👋

I’ve spent the last 24 years working in specialist residential care and education for young adults with SEN and varying physical disabilities, and I’m excited to bring that experience into my new role as care manager. 💙

Person-centred care has always been at the heart of everything I do, and I’m passionate about ensuring the individual always comes first. I look forward to supporting both clients and colleagues while helping to foster this ethos across the team.

Outside of work, I love reading, travelling, true crime documentaries, and spending time with family, friends, and my three cats — Tess, Scout and Marnie. 🐾

"I have enough time to do everything I want to" 🤩

Flexible working is especially important in live-in care. Live-in roles with long-term carers offer real continuity for clients, but they also require balance. Spending extended time in someone’s home means carers need clear structures and it absolutely has to work for our carers as much as it does our clients. Without that, the role simply isn’t sustainable.

Well-planned live-in patterns protect everyone. Clients benefit from consistent, familiar support. Carers benefit from proper rest periods and a rota that allows them to fully switch off between placements.

Good care depends on clear, consistent communication between the Personal Assistants and their clients, and an open dialogue with their Care Managers, too.

Our Care Managers stay in regular contact with carers to make sure clients’ needs are being met and that carers feel supported in their role. That might be a scheduled check-in, a quick call to talk something through, or a more in-depth conversation if circumstances change.

Receiving this feedback in our most recent colleague survey was great, because it proves our PAs know that they’re not working in isolation.
