For some of you it's the first week back at school ๐Ÿซ ๐Ÿ‘ซ
The school holidays have finished and the back to school routines begin.

Whether its primary or high school it can be scary returning after a long time off or even starting somewhere new ๐Ÿ˜จ

What are your teachers going to be like?
Are your friends going to be there?
Will I be OK?
What if the lessons are too hard?
What if I forget something?
Who do I talk to if I need help?
How do I know what to do or where to go?

These are all normal questions to ask and the emotions that come with them can be just as scary.

Below are some tips on helping manage those feelings and emotions before and after school. It is everyone's first day back and although they may not show it others will probably be having similar experiences, feelings and emotions about going back to school.

Be kind to yourself and others ๐Ÿ’–
Think what emotion are you feeling and name it ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿฅฒ๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿฅฑโ˜น๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜จ
Talk to your parents carers and support network after school ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ
Organise and plan for the day/week ๐Ÿ“š
Use your calming/coping strategies where possible ๐Ÿ’จ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ“–โœ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ
Do something fun to celebrate your first week back. No matter how big or small the successes. ๐Ÿ…

Taking that first step into school is a success !!

You have got this ๐Ÿคฉ

โœจ GOOD LUCK BACK TO SCHOOL! โœจ

Whether youโ€™re starting primary school, high school, a new year group or returning after the holidays, weโ€™re wishing you lots of luck as you head back to school. ๐Ÿ’™

Rememberโ€ฆ

๐ŸŒŸ Itโ€™s okay to feel nervous and excited.
๐Ÿ’š You donโ€™t have to get everything right.
๐ŸŒˆ Take things one day at a time.
๐Ÿ’ฌ Ask for help when you need it.
๐Ÿ’› Be kind to yourself and to others.
๐ŸŒฑ Mistakes are part of learning.
โญ Be proud of the small steps as well as the big ones.

And if today feels difficult, that doesnโ€™t mean tomorrow will be.

Be brave. Be curious. Be kind. Most importantly, be YOU.

๐Ÿค” Calming strategies what are they??

Below are some top tips on some of the calming strategies we recommend-

Self soothe box - think of this as your grab bag when struggling. Fill a box, pillowcase, pencil case, spare bag or anything that can hold your items. Add to this some items that help you soothe yourself. This could be a soduku puzzle, word search, paper and pens to doodle with, hot chocolate sachet, chocolate bar, crisps, sweets, face masks, hand cream, fidget toys, Teddy bear, affirmation cards, photos of friends/family or places, jokes and more. ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿงธ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ“ธ

Breathing techniques - box breathing, finger breathing, smell the pizza/cool the pizza ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ•

Mindfulness - body scanning/tensing each muscle as you focus on the different areas, listening to music and naming all the instruments used, laying in the garden/park looking and listening for the sounds of nature or cloud watching ๐Ÿƒ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿฆ‹๐ŸŒ๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽง๐ŸŽธ๐ŸŽน๐Ÿฅ

Coping skills - the 5,4,3,2,1 method of naming 5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you can touch, 2 things you can smell or taste and 1 deep breath. Listing as many things of a subject like chocolate bars, cars, football teams, dog breeds and more. Scategories, using the alphabet to name something in a topic such as animals, shops, names ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘‚โœ‹๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿ’จ

Spending time with family of friends - connection is a big part of our lives. A simple text or phone call can often lighten our mood. Sitting with family for meals or going for a walk with pets. It doesn't have to be big to make the difference. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿ‘ซ

Self care - do something you enjoy. This could be a hobby you have or one you want to start, look at your sleep routine, diet and fluid intake is just as important to function, spending time with others or alone, creating a mini pamper session with a bubble bath or relaxing shower, face masks, moisturisers, spending time in nature away from the hustle and bustle of life. Its not selfish to practice self care ๐Ÿง–โ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ›€๐Ÿ›Œ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐ŸŒณ

Being kind to yourself - Take a moment to think about you and be kind. Focus on your positives, look for affirmations that inspire you, give and take compliments, talk to yourself like you would a friend with compassion and support, treat yourself to something you have been putting off, look for the positives of the day as there is always 1 !! ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคฉ

Create a list of all the things that help you calm. Share them with family, friends or your support network. Do them together or alone. Find what works for you. The more you practice them the easier they become ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿ“ฃ calling all bakers ๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿง
Unique Kidz & Co are looking for volunteer bakers to help with coffee mornings and fundraisers.

If you think you could be the next best Volunteer Baker please contact them for further details ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿคฉ

๐Ÿง Calling all bakers!

Do you love baking and fancy putting those skills to good use for Unique Kidz & Co?

Weโ€™re looking for a few lovely people to join our list of volunteer bakers who we can call on when we need cakes for coffee mornings, fairs and fundraising events.

Thereโ€™s absolutely no regular commitment or rota. Weโ€™ll simply get in touch when we have something coming up and, if youโ€™re free to bake, brilliant! If not, thereโ€™s always next time.

And to make things even easier, we can collect your cakes from you. ๐Ÿ’œ

๐Ÿฐ OUR FIRST CAKE APPEAL!

Weโ€™re looking for homemade cakes for the Garstang URC Coffee Morning on Thursday 3rd September.

If you could bake something for us this time, or would like to be added to our volunteer baker list for future events, please send us a message or email [email protected] with your contact details.

Whether itโ€™s a Victoria sponge, brownies, cupcakes, traybakes or your own speciality, weโ€™d love to hear from you!
