Rachel qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2008, since then she has worked as a District Nurse, Emergency Department Nurse and more recently as an MIU Nurse Practitioner. She is very experienced with a numerous range of ear problems, from assessing and treating infections to syringing and removal of foreign bodies. Rachel has completed an accredited Aural Microsuction Training Course recommended by the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists and is fully insured.

Ear appointments aren’t only about pulling out enormous pieces of wax for Waxy Wednesday. 😂

Rachel can examine your ear canal and eardrum and check what’s actually going on inside your ears.

Sometimes wax is the culprit. Sometimes there’s very little wax at all and something else may need further assessment.

If Rachel spots something that needs investigating, she can advise you on the next step and, where appropriate, write to your GP with her findings.

Sometimes it’s simply useful to know what’s going on in there!

🫒👂 Why do we keep banging on about oiling your ears before your appointment?

Because it really can make a difference!

Olive oil helps to soften and lubricate built-up wax, which can make it easier and more comfortable to remove.

Some particularly hard or longstanding blockages can still need more oiling and another visit before everything is completely cleared, but giving that wax a good head start before you see Rachel definitely helps!

Something we hear quite a lot after removing a good build-up of wax!

As wax accumulates in the ear canal, it can cause your hearing to become muffled or make your ear feel blocked or full. And because it can happen gradually, you might not immediately notice how much things have changed.

If everyone seems to be mumbling lately, it might not be everyone else… 😂

An ear check can tell us if wax could be contributing.

Apparently it’s already the 5th, but better late than never, right?

October is well and truly underway, the darker evenings are creeping in, the jumpers are coming back out and Rachel is ready for another busy month of ear checks, wax removals and plenty more Waxy Wednesdays. 👂
