Microsuction Ear Wax Removal Based at SW Podiatry and Health at Homeleigh Garden Centre, Launceston

Rachel qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2008, since then she has worked as a District Nurse, Emergency Department Nurse and more recently as an MIU Nurse Practitioner. She is very experienced with a numerous range of ear problems, from assessing and treating infections to syringing and removal of foreign bodies. Rachel has completed an accredited Aural Microsuction Training Course recommended by the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists and is fully insured.

Many people find that one ear regularly causes more trouble than the other, and there are a few reasons why. It could be down to the shape of your ear canal, the amount of wax each ear produces, or even your sleeping position.

In fact, it's quite common for us to find one ear completely clear and the other full of wax!

Did you know ear wax is supposed to be there? 👀

I know it seems like it causes more trouble than it's worth, especially when this much wax gets stuck.

But it protects your ears from dust, debris and infection. 🦠

Without it, your delicate inner ear would face a lot more problems.

👂 How often should you have your ears cleaned? 👂

The answer is... it depends! 😊

There isn't a set schedule that works for everyone.

Some people naturally produce very little ear wax and may only need their ears checked every year or two.

Others are more prone to wax build-up and benefit from having them cleaned every few months.

Factors such as age, hearing aid use, ear anatomy, and simply how much wax your ears produce can all make a difference.

Everyone's ears are different, which is why we tailor our advice to you 💜

👂 A little reminder to be careful who you trust with your ears.

Ear wax removal is currently an - unregulated industry -, which means anyone can technically offer microsuction, regardless of their clinical background or experience.

When carried out incorrectly, there is a very real risk of discomfort, trauma, or damage to the ear. Your ears are delicate, and safe practice really matters.

With a background as an NHS nurse, alongside experience treating both children and neurodivergent patients, my focus is always on providing calm, safe, patient-centred care tailored to the individual sitting in front of me. 💜

Not every pair of ears, or every patient, is the same, and that’s why experience counts.

We’re already fully booked this week, and next week we only have availability left on Tuesday and Wednesday.
