Rachel qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2008, since then she has worked as a District Nurse, Emergency Department Nurse and more recently as an MIU Nurse Practitioner. She is very experienced with a numerous range of ear problems, from assessing and treating infections to syringing and removal of foreign bodies. Rachel has completed an accredited Aural Microsuction Training Course recommended by the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists and is fully insured.

Here’s Rachel hiding from what felt like the only bit of rain we had all summer… 😂 And, dare we say it, we’re actually quite ready for a bit more!

The ‘ber months are officially here, the kids are heading back to school and we’re looking forward to a busy few months at RTW.

Here’s hoping September brings us plenty more lovely patients, plenty more ears to clear… and PLEASE, plenty more rain for the gardens! 🌧️🌿

👂 You never know what's hiding in your kids' ears! 👀

These two wax plugs came from one youngster. One from each ear! 😲 They had probably been building up for quite some time.

Ear wax build-up isn't just something that happens as we get older. Children can get blocked up too, sometimes without even realising it.

So if your little one is complaining of muffled hearing, asking "what?" more often, turning the TV up, or simply seems to have blocked ears, it might be worth getting them checked.

👂 A nice bit of Saturday morning breakfast viewing for you… 😂

This was a seriously stubborn wax plug! It took several visits to gradually loosen and remove.

This is why we recommend using olive oil ear spray before your appointment. It helps soften and lubricate the wax, making removal easier.

If a blockage has been there for a long time, though, even with regular oiling, it can sometimes take several visits over a few weeks to fully loosen.

So if you've been putting off getting your ears sorted… don't let it get this stubborn! 😅

Research suggests there’s a link between hearing loss and cognitive decline. When you struggle to hear, your brain has to work harder to process sounds, and untreated hearing loss can also lead to social isolation.

With the summer holidays coming to an end, this is the last chance to take advantage of extra appointments!

During the school holidays, Rachel has been working extended hours on the days she’s in clinic, meaning there have been more appointments available than usual.

⚠️ Wax Plug of the Week... with a surprise inside! 👀⚠️

This might just be the ultimate wax plug... because hidden inside was a piece of cotton wool! 😲

The patient had been using cotton wool to soak up excess ear oil, but unfortunately it became lodged in the ear. Judging by the amount of wax that had built up around it, it had been there for quite some time!

It's a good reminder that it's best not to put anything into your ears, even if it seems harmless. Cotton wool, cotton buds and other objects can become trapped or push wax further into the ear, leading to blockages and discomfort.

Thankfully, everything was safely removed, and the patient left hearing much more clearly. 👂💜

With the school holidays now here, Rachel will be working longer hours, which means we've got more appointments available than ever over the summer! 👂✨

One little thing to note... because these extra clinics aren't part of our usual schedule, they may not always appear on the online booking system.

So if you can't find a time that works for you online, please give us a call. We often have additional availability that we can book you into over the phone. 💜

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat, asked questions about ear health, or simply came over to say hello. It was so lovely meeting so many new faces (and catching up with familiar ones too!) 💜👂

A special thank you to Homeleigh Garden Centre and SW Podiatry & Health Clinic Ltd for letting me tag along and be part of such a great day. It's always a pleasure working alongside such a fantastic team.
