***** COMPETITION TIME *****

Yes, the competitions continue throughout June and this week you can WIN YOUR VERY OWN HAMMOCK just like the ones we love at Forest School sessions (as modelled in the second photo!).

Brand new hammock with hanging straps and a nice pocket to stuff it all into for storage/transport. All you need is a couple of trees.

*To enter just tell me something you might do with a stick*

Perhaps you’d use it to toast a marshmallow or to be a wand or to throw for your dog. There are limitless possibilities so be as creative as you like. We will have a panel of independent adjudicators (my family) who will pick their favourite answers and if the decision is split we will go to a public vote (that’s you lot).

So get your answers in the comments and share this post far and wide. Competition closes at midnight this Saturday (13th June). I can’t wait to read your ideas!

Something I love about Monday group is that it provides a space not only for the children to enjoy time in nature, make friends, learn skills and have fun, but also for their grown ups too. We made mushrooms today and many of the grown ups had a go at making their own.

Having time to sit and be creative while chatting in the fresh air and sunshine (yes, it was actually sunny today 🌞 🥳) is good for the soul.

Thankyou everyone for making the Nature Explorers community so special to be part of.

I co-facilitate this group in Plymouth on the second Tuesday of each month. This week we will be celebrating the summer solstice (I little early I know) and taking time to let go of the things we no longer need and welcome in the light.

Grown ups, it would be lovely to see you there

Tuesday 9th June, 7-9pm - Immersed in Nature - Summer Solstice celebration

Weather permitting - we will be gathering in Freedom Fields on Tuesday for a celebration of light - we want it to be uplifting, loving and joyful - letting go of anything we need to, to let the light in.

Meet us at Freedom Fields near the main entrance, just off Greenbank Road at 7.00pm (or let us know if you want to meet at 6.40pm at Sherwell United Church car park for car shares.)

Please bring suitable clothes for the weather! / your own drink / a contribution for the centre-piece (flowers, leaves, a stone, a photo - something relating to letting / reflecting light in our lives.)
Note: be prepared to take off your shoes (but only if comfortable)

Watch this space if the weather looks to be horrendous and we'll do the same activity indoors at Sherwell - but we are not going to be put off by a few drops of rain!

Teamwork!

Photo of 2 young people working together to split wood for our fire at yesterday’s Nature Ed-Venturers. I can confirm that the fire was a roaring success, and the damper bread had mixed feedback. We discovered that it cooks much more quickly when wrapped around bamboo compared to hazel. We had a great conversation about the science of fires and cooking bread and what makes bamboo explode and how to avoid that.

Thanks to all the young people who came and joined us in the woods. See you next week!
