πŸ“° "My cancer was invisible to the doctor."

This year, our Invisible Cancer report received national media coverage, helping to shine a light on the reality of neuroendocrine cancer.

The article highlights the experiences of people like Craig, who spent five years seeking answers before receiving a diagnosis, and Gordon, a GP who initially missed the signs of his own neuroendocrine cancer.

The report found that:
β€’ Diagnosis takes an average of 4.5 years from first symptom
β€’ Almost half of patients are not diagnosed at their first referral
β€’ More than half are diagnosed at an advanced stage

Neuroendocrine cancer is often called an invisible cancer because symptoms can be vague, affect multiple body systems, and are frequently mistaken for other conditions such as IBS, asthma or menopause.

As Professor Martyn Caplin explains:

πŸ’¬"Smaller volumes of neuroendocrine cancer are generally easier to manage than more advanced disease. Delays increase both the physical and emotional toll on patients and limit clinical options."

"Taekwondo saved my life."

We're incredibly grateful to British Taekwondo for sharing Leanne Armstrong's inspiring story.

In 2019, what seemed like an ordinary training session led to the discovery of Leanne's neuroendocrine cancer. That moment changed her life forever.

Like many people living with neuroendocrine cancer, Leanne faced uncertainty, major treatment decisions and the reality of living with a rare cancer that is often diagnosed late. But with expert care, determination and the support of those around her, she has continued to do what she loves.

Last year, Leanne achieved her 5th Dan and Master status in Taekwondo – a remarkable achievement and a testament to her strength, resilience and dedication.

Her story is a powerful reminder that while a neuroendocrine cancer diagnosis can be life-changing, it does not define a person or their future.

Thank you, Leanne, for continuing to raise awareness and inspire others in our community.

Please continue to share your love and support to Ruth, who is now approaching her 1000th dip!!! ❀

πŸŽ‰ Fundraiser Friday πŸŽ‰

This week we're celebrating another fantastic group of fundraisers who have taken on marathons, walks and community challenges to support Neuroendocrine Cancer UK.

Whether raising awareness as a healthcare professional, walking in memory of a loved one, or fundraising while living with neuroendocrine cancer themselves, every fundraiser is helping to make a difference.

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Kate – Edinburgh Marathon – Over Β£1,000 raised
Kate took on the Edinburgh Marathon, running in support of a friend living with neuroendocrine cancer. Not only has Kate raised vital funds through her marathon challenge, but as a healthcare professional she continually raises awareness of neuroendocrine cancer amongst her peers, helping to educate others about this often misunderstood disease.

πŸŒ‰ Steven & Kirsty – Humber Bridge Memory Walk – Β£755 raised
Family and friends came together to complete a memory walk across the Humber Bridge in honour of Andy, who lived with neuroendocrine cancer for 17 years. The fundraiser celebrated Andy's positivity, determination and commitment to supporting others affected by neuroendocrine cancer.

πŸ₯Ύ Lauren, Lia & Ashley – South Downs Way Challenge – Β£2,077.50 raised
Lauren and her friends took on the South Downs Way in memory of her dad, Michael, following his battle with Merkel Cell carcinoma. Across two long weekends, they completed the challenge while raising awareness of rare cancers and the importance of research and early diagnosis.

πŸ₯Ύ Chris & Margaret – Glasgow Kiltwalk 2026 – Β£1,696.55 raised
Living with neuroendocrine cancer himself, Chris took on the Glasgow Kiltwalk alongside Margaret to raise funds and awareness for Neuroendocrine Cancer UK. Completing the challenge in just over four and a half hours, he was overwhelmed by the generosity and support received along the way.
