"The doctors say that I am in the best health that they’ve ever seen me in and that my heart is working sufficiently. If life didn’t have the bad times we wouldn’t enjoy the good."

After suffering a sudden cardiac arrest at the age of 16, Luke was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, alongside other health complications, that led to a challenging recovery.

It is recommended that anyone with a hidden medical condition carries a form of identification detailing their condition and any medication they are on. This could be in the form of a card placed somewhere visible in your wallet/purse, or an identification jewelry, such as a MedicAlert ID.

MedicAlert is the UK’s first and only medical ID charity, trusted by healthcare professionals and members for more than 60 years.
myheart members can receive 15% off MedicAlert IDs using the code CRY15.

Outcomes of a nationwide cardiac screening programme – with a focus on young females

According to a new, CRY-funded study (an important subsidiary of the seminal research paper published earlier this year in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology), young women should be encouraged to attend cardiac screening sessions with greater awareness needed to ensure that these so called ‘hidden killers’ are not just perceived as a risk to young ‘sporty men’.

News Article - My Heart Member Kaitlin Lawrence, was diagnosed with a heart rhythm problem two years ago after collapsing on a netball court.

"She now has a device, called a defibrillator, fitted in her chest, which has already saved her life twice.
"It can give my heart an electric shock to get it working properly again," she explains.
"It feels like a thump when it happens. I had one recently, in February. It's a bit scary, but it works. I'm on beta-blocker tablets too to help keep my heart in the right rhythm."
Kaitlin says her condition could have been detected using a quick and simple ECG (electrocardiogram) which records the heart's rhythm."
