Somewhere out there, you're the villain in someone's story, simply for holding them accountable for something they weren't ready to own. 🔦
That's actually uncomfortable to sit with, especially if you like being seen as the good guy. But accountability rarely gets remembered kindly by the person receiving it. They don't usually walk away thinking "that person helped me grow." They walk away rewriting the story so you're the problem instead of the mirror.
Your mind doesn't need everyone's story about you to be flattering. It just needs to know the truth of what actually happened. You said something true. They didn't like hearing it. That's the whole story, even if their version sounds completely different.
Being someone's villain for telling the truth is a strange kind of honor, actually. It usually means you cared enough to say the hard thing instead of staying comfortable and silent.
You can handle being misremembered by someone who wasn't ready to hear you.
