What can a scan really tell us about shoulder pain? 🤔

The Finnish Imaging of Shoulder (FIMAGE) Study is a large research project looking at how well shoulder scans (like MRI) match up with people’s actual symptoms.

Researchers examined hundreds of adults, assessing their shoulder symptoms, physical examination and imaging results.

👉 One key takeaway:
Structural changes on scans are very common — even in people with no shoulder pain.

💡 What this means for patients:
A scan doesn’t always explain your pain, and “abnormalities” on imaging don’t always mean something is seriously wrong.

That’s why a full clinical assessment, movement testing and personalised rehabilitation are so important when managing shoulder pain.
