💫 What I loved about The Invite was hearing Penélope Cruz talk so openly about menopause. It’s something so many of us women experience, yet we still don’t talk about it enough.
Seeing it brought into a film in such an honest and relatable way made me smile. And let’s be honest, if men experienced hot flushes, brain fog, sleepless nights and mood swings, I suspect we’d have a national emergency, paid menopause leave and a cure by Friday! 😂

Joking aside, it’s lovely to see menopause being talked about so openly. The more we talk, the more we normalise it. ❤️

The secret to a subtle lip enhancement? 💋

It’s not about creating bigger lips, it’s about enhancing what you already have.

For a new patient, my approach is always less is more.

We start by assessing your natural lip shape, proportions, symmetry and facial balance, taking time to understand what you want to achieve.

A subtle enhancement is about:
✨ Restoring lost volume where needed
✨ Enhancing natural definition
✨ Improving hydration and softness
✨ Respecting your natural lip shape
✨ Creating balance without looking overfilled

The best lip enhancements shouldn’t change how you look — they should simply leave you looking like a refreshed version of yourself.

At Birkinshaw Aesthetics and Wellbeing, my philosophy is simple: Your lips, just subtly enhanced.

Beautiful results don’t need to be obvious. 🤍

💫 Attending CCR last week was a great opportunity to step away from the clinic and immerse myself in the latest developments within aesthetics.
➡️ I saw so many different treatments, techniques and products, while learning from experienced practitioners and gaining a real insight into where our industry is heading.
➡️ My biggest take-home message was that good aesthetics isn’t about following every new trend — it’s about understanding the evidence, putting patient safety first and choosing treatments that genuinely benefit the individual.
👩‍⚕️ As a nurse, continuous learning is such an important part of my practice, and I came away feeling inspired, informed and even more committed to providing safe, ethical and natural-looking results for my patients.

💕 But the best part was spending a lovely couple of days with my gorgeous daughter Bella, who’s working and studying hard in the big 💨 we couldn’t be prouder of you 🥰

💫 Your body doesn’t usually absorb collagen from food and simply “put it into the skin.” Instead, it makes its own collagen from amino acids, particularly glycine, proline and lysine. Your diet supplies those building blocks plus the vitamins and minerals needed for collagen synthesis.

➡️ The key nutrients are:

✅ Protein – provides amino acids. Good sources include eggs, fish, chicken, lean meat, dairy, beans, lentils and tofu.

✅ Vitamin C – essential for collagen formation. Think berries, kiwi, oranges, peppers, broccoli and tomatoes.

✅ Zinc – involved in collagen production and tissue repair. Found in meat, shellfish, dairy, seeds and nuts.

✅ Copper – helps collagen fibres form and strengthen. Found in nuts, seeds, shellfish, whole grains and dark chocolate.

✅ Omega-3 fats – don’t directly make collagen, but can support skin health and the inflammatory environment. Oily fish, walnuts, chia and flax are useful sources.

➡️ How’s your diet ❓

What an incredible few days with an incredible group of women! ☘️💚

We came together through our Irish heritage, took on a mountain, raised money for a great cause and somehow managed to laugh our way through the aching legs, questionable decisions about how far we still had to go, and the moments when I’m sure we all wondered whose idea this actually was! 😂⛰️

Women supporting women from “The women of Irish heritage” 💪 raising vital funds for three charities in Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool. which really do a phenomenal job supporting both men and women of Irish heritage, one being my mum go above and beyond and I’m learning more and more about they’re amazing work ❤️

But what I’ll remember most isn’t just reaching the top — it’s the laughter, the stories, the encouragement, the friendships and everyone looking out for each other along the way 🥰

There’s something very special about a group of strong Irish women together — plenty of determination, plenty of humour and absolutely no shortage of opinions! ☘️😂

🧘🏼‍♀️September is often used as a Self-Care Awareness Month — a reminder that looking after yourself isn’t simply about pampering. It’s about regularly making time for your physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.

💫 Self-care can mean getting enough sleep, moving your body, eating well, setting boundaries, taking a break when you need one, spending time with people who make you feel good, looking after your skin and health, or simply allowing yourself some time without feeling you should be doing something productive.

💫 It can be especially relevant through perimenopause and menopause, when many women are juggling work, family, relationships and changing symptoms while continuing to put themselves last.

💫 Four things to concentrate on:

🧘 Mindfulness
Being present rather than constantly thinking about what needs doing next. Mindfulness can be as simple as taking a few quiet minutes, going for a walk without your phone, noticing your surroundings, or checking in with how you are actually feeling.

✨ Motivation
Self-care isn’t always about stopping. Sometimes it’s about finding the motivation to do the things that make us feel better — moving our bodies, seeing friends, getting outside, eating well or finally doing something we’ve been putting off. Small steps count.

💤 Rest
Rest is a necessity, not something we have to earn. It means recognising when your body and mind need to slow down. Rest can be sleep, but it can also mean having an evening with no plans, taking a break from social media or simply doing nothing without feeling guilty.

🛑 Boundaries
Perhaps one of the hardest forms of self-care. It’s being able to say no, protecting your time and recognising that you don’t have to be constantly available to everyone. Setting boundaries isn’t about being difficult — it’s about recognising your own limits.

❓What things do you do to prioritise your health and wellbeing?

🌟 On Sunday I took my daughter back to Liverpool for her 2nd year of Uni so it’s been an emotional week adjusting without her 🥹

Two 🚗🚙 vehicles of belongings, she knew what she wanted or needed should I say 🙄 to create the perfect student house 🍾🍹

But for me on that drive home with tears down my face, I had mixed feelings…

I’m so proud of her, excited for her, worried about her, miss her 😔🥰 but the reality is she’s fine and I left her laughing away with her house mates 🤣but if she’s needs me or her dad we will there in a flash ☄️

💫 Ageing Skin & the Importance of SPF ☀️

When it comes to healthy, youthful skin, one product stands above the rest: SPF ✅

👉 Around 80–90% of visible skin ageing is caused by UV exposure rather than the natural ageing process. Even on cloudy days, UVA rays pe*****te through clouds and glass, silently breaking down collagen and elastin—the proteins that keep our skin firm, plump and smooth.

⁉️ Why SPF matters

* Protects collagen and elastin from breaking down.
* Helps prevent fine lines and wrinkles.
* Reduces pigmentation and age spots.
* Lowers inflammation that can accelerate ageing.
* Helps maintain an even skin tone.
* Reduces the risk of skin cancer.

✅ Remember…

Sun damage isn’t just something that happens on holiday. Every day you drive, walk the dog, sit by a window or enjoy your lunch outside, your skin is exposed to UVA rays that contribute to premature ageing.

💄Albus & Flora lip balm may help reduce the risk of cold sore flare-ups in some people, but it’s important to know that it doesn’t treat or cure the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) that causes cold sores.

💋Here’s why it may be helpful:

* Keeps lips well hydrated – Dry, cracked lips are more vulnerable to irritation, which can sometimes trigger a cold sore.
* Protects the skin barrier – A healthy lip barrier makes it harder for environmental factors like wind and cold weather to damage the lips.
* Contains UV protection – Sun exposure is a common trigger for cold sores. Protecting the lips from UV rays can help reduce outbreaks in people whose cold sores are triggered by the sun.
* Reduces inflammation – Soothing ingredients can calm irritated lips, making them feel more comfortable.
* Supports healing – Nourishing ingredients help the lips recover more quickly after they’ve been dry or damaged.

✅ All important reasons to have this in your daily care regime and definitely while your on your hols 🛫

🎬 The perimenopause can be an absolutely difficult time for lots of women but it can also be a time to change.
💡It can often be the first time when you put you first, when you consider your needs over everyone else’s….
✅ It’s not always easy as you need to prioritise sleep, you need to think about your diet and make lifestyle changes. You might want to change the type of exercise you take and get out into nature more and you may need to consider hormone replacement therapy.
🙋‍♀️ What ever you need to do, remember there is help available and don’t suffer in silence.
I know as I’ve been there and believe you me it’s not pleasant. So, get in touch if you want advice around the perimenopause and the menopause, I’m here to help 👩‍⚕️
