Our local tree services and some information regarding nesting season!
🌳🐦⬛🪺Just a little reminder that we are in bird nesting season and there are laws that we abide by. Natural England define the season as starting in February and running through to August, while RSPB state March - September. However, this is only a general guide. Nature is it’s own boss and birds will nest when ever they want to, combine this with climate warming and it means that both the start and end date of nesting have extended a lot in recent years, we regularly find active nests as late as October! So from first hand experience we would advise that bird nesting season is February - October and we will always carry out checks for active nests all year round!
⚠️ In England and Wales, all wild birds, their young, nests and eggs are protected under the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981. It is an illegal offence to damage, destroy, remove or kill them. We fully respect this law.
✅ This doesn’t mean that it is illegal to carry out tree works or hedge cutting during the summer, provided proper checks are carried out and no active nests are tampered with or removed. Our recommendation, where possible, is to wait until autumn/winter for larger removals and reductions to avoid active nests. However, we fully appreciate that folk will have their own personal reasons for needing this sort of work doing in spring/summer and we would prefer customers to ask us or another reputable, appropriately trained, law abiding company to carry out the work. This guarantees that a visual and physical inspection will be carried out and ensures the protection of active nests, eggs and birds. 💚
🪺🐣🛑 We’ve already had a number of jobs this year that have had to be postponed due to active nests, mostly pigeon nests (which are still protected, despite popular belief) and we’re very grateful that our customers are always understanding when we have to delay their work.
We hope this helps raise awareness and clarify the law 👍
