Last week, we were pleased to welcome Rachel Gilmour MP to Minehead Medical Centre, alongside colleagues from NHS Somerset Integrated Care Board.

It was a valuable opportunity to share the progress made at the practice, highlight the dedication of our team, and discuss the evolving needs of our local community.

Thank you to Rachel and the ICB team for taking the time to engage with us and have meaningful conversations about the future of primary care in Somerset.

This International Nurses Day, we’re sharing a few stories that highlight the growth and dedication of our nurses. We have asked team leaders to highlight some of the best stories within our nursing teams, spanning from teamwork to outstanding career progression.

🩺 From Triage to Advanced Practice: Sheffield WIC

Daniel Clay, Amanda Marcroft and Paris Thorpe-Brown each began their careers with us as triage nurses. Keen to develop further, they enrolled onto our in-house Level 6 Clinical Practitioner programme, where they built on their existing experience with advanced clinical skills, decision-making, and leadership training.

Now, all three are taking the next step. They’ve moved on to their third Level 7 university module as part of the pathway to becoming Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs). Their progression shows the strength of our clinical development framework and how ambition, backed by the right support, leads to real career growth.

🎉 Celebrating our trainees

Amber Harrison joined us as a Nurse Associate and is set to complete her top-up to Registered Nurse this October. Rachel Webster, based in Milton Keynes, is about to begin her own top-up training.

Practice Nurse, Michelle Kendall is progressing through her ACP training, expanding her clinical roles. Meanwhile, Abigail Corkill and Laura Hudson, who started with us as newly qualified nurses, are now fully autonomous Practice Nurses after completing their preceptorship.

Across the group, many of our Practice Nurses continue to build on their skills with further training in core practice areas and long-term condition management; a real testament to the team’s commitment to delivering the best possible care to our communities.

📈 A Journey of Growth at the Light Surgery

Back in 2021, our nursing team at The Light Surgery faced some tough challenges with staffing. Fast forward to today, and we’re proud to have a thriving, motivated team at the heart of our practice, all thanks to the leadership of Zoe, our Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP).

Under Zoe’s guidance, several team members have made impressive strides. Edita is working towards her ANP qualification, Abi has completed her Diabetes and Cervical Smear training, and Becky, our experienced Practice Nurse, shares invaluable expertise. Amber is progressing through her nursing course, Sophie has started her Nurse Associate training, and Lauren recently earned her prescribing qualification in Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC).

The team’s synergy is remarkable. Not only do they work seamlessly together, but they also consistently provide exceptional care. This team is a true credit to our service, and we’re incredibly proud of everything they’ve achieved.

From Grimsby to Carlisle, 2011 and 2012 were important years in building our cultural foundations as well as a lot of healthcare premises!

Here’s a look back at the health centres we built, services we delivered, and the care we reimagined for communities across the UK:

🚀 2011 Milestones

🏥 Raj Medical Centre, Grimsby
Opened March 2011: A £1.6m development delivered in just nine months, rehoming the practice on a new site through collaboration with the neighbouring church.

🏥 Woodhead Road, Bradford & North Street, Keighley
New contracts awarded and opened: Both surgeries began operating under OneMedicare, supporting diverse and underserved communities.

🏥 Crossfell Health Centre, Middlesbrough
Refurbished and reopened: 858m² of purpose-designed clinical space, improving flow and comfort for patients and staff.

📊 OneView & OneSpace Launch
We rolled out our new data dashboard and group intranet, transforming how we manage performance and share knowledge across the business.

🏥 Sheffield Walk in Centre (then called Sheffield GP Health Centre)
Expanded overnight: With the closure of a nearby nurse-led unit, our patient volume nearly doubled to 65,000+ annually; streamlining urgent care across Sheffield.

💡 Vision, Values & Behaviour FrameworkWe launched our core values: Patients First, Positive Relationships, Professionalism, Innovation, and Commitment; laying the foundation for our culture.

🚀 2012 Milestones

🏥 Quayside Medical Centre, Grimsby
New contract secured: Continued to offer flexible access with weekend appointments and walk-ins for locals and visitors alike.

🏥 Standish Medical Centre, Wigan
Award-winning design: Our £2.3m centre received an Urban Design Award and delivered bespoke, modern care spaces in just 8 months.

🌍 Healthcare Improvement Trip, Boston
Our leadership’s US visit led to the creation of Patient Education Centres and Support & Advice Hubs, empowering patients with knowledge and community.

🏥 Sheffield Walk in Centre
Despite NHS reforms, we retained the service and continued to deliver accessible care in the heart of the city.

🏥 Stanwix Medical Centre, Carlisle
Project underway: A 1400m² BREEAM Excellent primary care centre in progress, bringing together GPs, community services and a pharmacy.

🔁 Restructure & Growth
We bought out our partners, expanded our portfolio, and sold assets at strong yields, setting the stage for long-term stability and success.

Two more years of bold ideas, strong partnerships, and putting patients first. We’re proud of the legacy these projects continue to build.

As we mark our 20th anniversary, we're taking a moment to reflect on the pivotal moments that have defined our journey. In 2008, we made major strides in enhancing healthcare access, laying the foundation for OneMedicare's growth and success. Let’s take a look back at the milestones that helped shape this transformative year:

🏥 Rachel Beverley-Stevenson becomes CEO

In summer 2008, Rachel became CEO, leading the company into an exciting new chapter of growth and innovation. A role she stepped back into last year!

🏥 Lister House Medical Centre completion

We celebrated the completion of Lister House Medical Centre, which was ready to house the Lister House Surgery, Pear Tree Pharmacy, and Derby Open Access Centre in an underserved area. This project marked a major achievement for us.

🏥 Derby Open Access Centre - Our first Walk-In!

We won the contract for Derby Open Access Centre early in the year. This expanded our services and included a nurse-led walk-in service at Osmaston Road. This was a huge step toward ensuring patients could receive care when they needed it most. The centre opened in December 2008, with the aim of making healthcare more accessible for patients within the community. This was the beginning of our mission to transform healthcare access.

🏥 Park View Medical Centre

We signed agreements for Park View Medical Centre in Long Eaton, a £1.3 million integrated healthcare centre that replaced outdated facilities, offering modern, accessible care to the community.

🏥 Won contract for Sheffield Walk-In and Broad Lane Medical Centre

This was a significant step in our mission to expand access to high-quality, patient-centered care. The new centre was part of the Equitable Access Programme, which aimed to ensure fair and personalised healthcare for all. 17 years later, we're proud to still run the Walk-In Centre, continuing our commitment to providing essential services and accessible healthcare to the Sheffield community.

We’re proud to look back on these milestones that helped shape OneMedical Group into what it is today. Here's to the progress we’ve made and the many more years to come! 🙌💙

Stay tuned as we continue our Throwback Thursday series!

As we celebrate our 20th year, we’re looking back at some of the key moments that shaped our journey.

2007 was a huge milestone - the year we officially made our mark in healthcare development and service delivery!

🏥 Beacon Medical Centre, Cleethorpes – Our First Ever Development!
2007 saw the opening of Beacon Medical Centre in Cleethorpes, our very first project, marking the beginning of our mission to transform healthcare spaces. We were honoured to have Hayley Tamaddon, known for her role as Delilah Di**le in Emmerdale (and later as Andrea in Coronation Street and Dancing on Ice champion, officially open the centre. This moment put us on the map, setting the foundation for many more developments to come!

🏥 Rosegarth Surgery, Halifax – A Major Transformation
Rosegarth Surgery underwent a significant refurbishment, improving care for its 9,000 patients. The project involved:
✔️ A redesigned reception and waiting area for a better patient experience
✔️ Two additional treatment rooms to enhance healthcare services
✔️ A new staff kitchen and admin office for improved working conditions
The refurbished surgery was officially re-opened by The Lord Mayor of Calderdale, Councillor Martin Peel, cementing our commitment to improving healthcare facilities.

🏥 Scartho Medical Centre and Scartho Community Centre – A £4M Community Hub
In November 2007, we were awarded the tender for Scartho Medical Centre and Community Centre. It was a landswap project completed in conjunction with North East Lincolnshire Council, the Care Trust Plus and Scartho Medical GPs. The new GP surgery was built on the site of the old community centre and the new community centre was built on the old site of the GP surgery. The innovative £4M design was centered around ‘the heart’; a bright, welcoming courtyard that served as the reception, waiting area, and central hub of the building. This project set the standard for our future developments, prioritising functionality, community and patient experience.

🏥 OneMedicare – Our First Care Tender & TUPE Experience
We won our first-ever care tender, marking the launch of our OneMedicare services:
✔️ The Light Surgery – A brand new start-up, officially opened by a contestant from The Apprentice. It even made the Yorkshire Evening Post!
✔️ Hilton Road Surgery – Our first-ever TUPE transfer, where we took over an existing GP practice and welcomed its staff into our OneMedical family. This 2,000-patient practice was the first of many successful transitions, shaping our expertise in managing NHS services.

2007: A Defining Year for OneMedical Group
From our first development to our first healthcare service contracts, 2007 was a turning point in our journey. It laid the groundwork for the 20 years of growth, innovation, and impact that followed.

Stay tuned as we continue our series, celebrating !
