We are a private physiotherapy clinic specialising in rehabilitation of knee, shoulder & spinal problems

The Leeds Sports Injury and Physiotherapy Clinic Ltd, trading as The Treadmill is a well established, successful Private Physiotherapy Clinic offering treatment at 2 sites in Leeds, at Headingley & Drighlington. Bernadette Scatchard & Marie Griffiths are the Clinical Directors and together have a wealth of experience in musculoskeletal and sports medicine, and continue to work within professional

sport. We have well established links with local Orthopaedic Surgeons, Chartered podiatrists, personal fitness trainers, Pilates & Yoga practitioners. Bernadette & Marie have now been business partners since 1987, & over recent years they have dedicated their efforts to developing the general practice, going on to work for many years with The West Yorkshire Playhouse, Opera North, Northern Ballet Theatre, a number of West End Touring Production Companies and Phoenix Dance.. They are both actively involved in sport at a personal level, completing The Great Yorkshire Bike Ride, running regularly at ½ marathon and 10K distances, raising thousands of pounds for local and national charities. Bernadette also completed the gruelling 3 Peaks Challenge on more than one occasion, recording very respectable times & ran 2007 Flora London Marathon in a “staggering” time of 4 hours 39 minutes!!

The first official female professional on the pitch at Twickenham! 🏟️

This is a look back in the archives from Marie’s time working with Yorkshire U21s (between 1986-89) 🏉

‘At that time I was among the very few female physios in sport, and in my role as physio to Yorkshire U21 I became the 1st official female to appear at Twickenham’

Alongside this achievement Marie worked closely with some big sporting names …🌹🦏🦁

‘We had a very strong team including John Bentley & Tony Underwood who both went on to represent England RU at senior level as well as the British Lions. John Bentley then signed for Leeds RL and went on to represent Great Britain’

‘Also in that U21 squad was Neil Summers who later signed for Bradford Bulls RL and Simon Irving who also signed for Leeds RL.’

Yorkshire won the county championship in 1986 🏆 with Marie as a key staff member!

What to Wear to Your Physio Appointment 👕✨

Heading to your first physio session? Wearing the right clothing can make your assessment and treatment more comfortable and effective.

✔️ Choose comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move easily.
✔️ Wear shorts if you’re coming in for a knee, hip, or ankle injury.
✔️ A vest or sleeveless top is ideal for shoulder or upper back concerns.
✔️ Supportive trainers are recommended if your assessment includes walking or exercise.
✔️ Avoid restrictive clothing or lots of jewellery that may get in the way.

The easier it is to access the area being treated, the more time we can spend helping you move and feel better.

What happens at your first appointment?

1: Initial Chat 💬
We start by getting to know you. We’ll discuss your symptoms, when they started, what makes them better or worse, your medical history, and your goals. This helps us understand the root cause of your problem and create a treatment plan that’s tailored to you.

2: Physical Assessment & Hands-On Treatment 👐
Next, we’ll assess how you move, your strength, flexibility, balance, and any areas of pain or stiffness. If appropriate, we may use hands-on techniques such as joint mobilisation, soft tissue massage, or stretching to help reduce pain and improve movement.

3: Personalised Exercise Plan 💪
You’ll be shown exercises that are specific to your condition and goals. We’ll make sure you feel confident performing them correctly and explain how they will help your recovery.

4: Review & Next Steps ✅
Before you leave, we’ll recap what we’ve found, answer any questions, and discuss your treatment plan going forward. You’ll know what to expect, how often to do your exercises, and when to book your next appointment if needed.
