ANNA ASKS:
What activity helps you rest enough in different ways to regain a mindset of enthusiasm for work?
ANNA’S ANSWER:
Not every rest is deep enough to restore hunger for or excitement about work activities. Everyone is different in this as we are all built differently, so we have to work this out for ourselves.
I love exploring new places of interest and enjoy quite a busy time doing that, for a little while. Getting up super early is not my cup of tea, so I try to avoid it, but last week’s short break at Highclere Castle (where Downton Abbey used to be filmed) was a really lovely example of just enough newness but also good sleeps and walks in my diary translates into being eager to get back to work mode again.
I also love music, and treated myself to almost two hours of searching for and downloading music that could be upbeat enough to listen to on its own or with a workout. I haven’t done this for ages so it was a real treat for me.
I find that having some density of activities but without rushing stops me from thinking over situations that I hadn’t arrived at the right conclusions yet. It also gives me a sense of stepping away enough to let me brain breathe again.
