Things that caught my eye on a walk this week.

Autumn is finally arriving in Leicester after a summer of no rain. The grass was still bleached yellow, then the leaves had started to drop onto it. It was a strange sight, as if the two didn't go together.

I'm thinking of endings and letting go as I watch the trees release their leaves this autum. It's a time of change for me as I think about moving from a place I've known for nearly 30 years.

What are you releasing this year?

I haven't shared a book for a while but I've just finished reading this one: Unmasking Autism by Dr Devon Price.

In general it's about having to hide or mask oneself to feel partially accepted by society and how exhausting that is.

He covers not only autism but also how autism may be expressed in women, trans people and anyone whose characteristics aren't those of the 'mainstream'.

The most important aspect of the book, for me, was in how to unlearn some of the externally imposed or assumed restrictions placed on one's expression.

Many of us hide in a myriad of ways and this book helps to identify core memories, values and expressions that we may have lost to fit in.

It goes some way towards recovering those sacrificed parts of ourselves.

If anyone else has read it, or wants to, I'd love to hear from you about it.

My happy face after walking up Walla Crag, near Keswick in the UK Lake District.

I was getting some odd looks for being in a vest when others were in coats and jumpers .. but these days I 'run hot' ๐Ÿ”ฅ (if you know, you know).

It's only a mini mountain but I was pretty pleased with myself (as you can tell).

It was good to feel vital and feel close to the elements, very magical โœจ๏ธ

I have found that some of the best nature magick, or nature connection is by being immersed - like with walking or swimming or whatever your individual way is. It's a communion, when it's done consciously.

It was lovely to develop my forest eyes, seeing small details I would have missed before.

Falling asleep to an owl hooting close by, hearing badgers in the night and waking to birdsong has totally reset the anxiety I hadn't realised I was feeling before I left.

Here's a few photos I took with my new eyes ๐Ÿ‘€

Continuing on the tree theme .. here's a bit of artwork I did with different shades of grey brush pens.

I was thinking that timelines in therapy can be 'too linear' and oversimplified. Also, I often prefer using symbols in timelines, rather than words. It works with the shamanistic / dream image way that I work as a therapist.

I was thinking about trees, and how they grow outwards. A cross section reveals years of drought or plenty. More growth in one year than another.

So here you have it, my timeline in tree form, with a few words but not many. I used darker greys coming out from the centre to indicate more formed or more recent experiences or influences.

Is this something you might consider using? Have you used it? What do you think?

More pictures of this same tree that I'm really obsessed with ๐ŸŒฟ

I discovered it on a walk to Bardon Hill in Leicestershire on a rare early morning walk.

The first picture is the most recent one, the last was my first. They're watercolour on paper finished with watercolour pens.

I'm really enjoying reconnecting with watercolour after a long time not touching them.

I love connecting with trees by drawing them, it's like getting to know their textures and shapes more intimately. I'm slowly learning to put in the environment around them.

Tomatoes, apples, gooseberries and blueberries ๐Ÿซ

I'm feeling very abundant now even in the scorching heat. It's lovely to see the garden thriving despite water shortages and days of no rain.

I must admit I prefer the milder temperatures in spring and autumn ๐Ÿ‚ but I know lots of people love the heat.

I hope you're all holding up if you suffer in the heat like me!

A little mention of

They're a brilliant organisation doing online (with in person events) training in ecotherapy. I thoroughly recommend their brilliant workshops and courses.

They have experienced teachers who are a combination of counsellors and nature -based practitioners, including a few shamanic practitioners. See pics or message for details.

There's an in person camping weekend in Scotland at the end of July, which will be brilliant. It's a combination of camping, meditation walks and contemplation.

See you there!

Lovely chill solstice eve in Keswick, lake district UK.

The light was so beautiful through the trees and on the water.

I often feel there is something bittersweet in the summer solstice - the peak of the sun's power and thus the beginning of its demise.

At Imbolc, we're all hope out of darkness but here we start our decline ๐Ÿ™ƒ

How's your Solstice?
