Su***de Prevention

Su***de is a theme in my life, not just professionally which you might expect, it comes with the territory of working in psychiatric services and community mental ill health. On a personal level I have known many people who have taken their lives both directly and indirectly. From a young child I was aware of su***de, my dad’s best man died this way.

Su***de is the single leading cause of death for men under the age of 50 in the UK and the leading cause of death for all young people under 35. The statistics are shocking and have not reduced in two decades, as far as I am aware.

I know from studying the data that people who didn’t go ahead with their planned destruction, it was human intervention, words of kindness, acknowledgment of distress, genuine concern and connection, which made the difference.

When someone is dead it’s too late. What we can all do is be more aware when people are struggling, check in on them, trust your gut and never be afraid to ask: “are you ok?” These three words can save a life!!

You don’t wake up in the morning and decide to kill yourself. It’s the tip of the iceberg and often there have been difficulties for years. Red flags that people reassure themselves will go away, resolve or maybe just don’t know how to face. People don’t want to kill themselves, they want the pain to stop.

Between The Trees

Up early this morning to write the Autumn Equinox Newsletter. I love to reflect at this time of seasonal change as we leave the warm days of Summer behind and begin to turn our energy inwards.

A time of harvest, of gathering in, of sharing the rich bounty of nature with friends and family. Between the trees we can merge with nature, connect with nature, perhaps even realise that we are nature; there is no separation, only if we allow there to be.

If you would like to be added to the quarterly mailing, message in the comments below!! ⬇️

Seasonal Shift

Harvesting Pears this morning I am aware of the shift in energy as we move into Autumn. A time for gathering in and taking stock of the outward flow of life, beginning to slow to a gentler pace, cooler temperatures and more measured considered actions.

There was a time when I would grieve the passing of Summer and feel a deep sense of sadness, which I later realised was not mine but my mother’s.

I love the rich varied tones, the scrunch of leaves underfoot and the cosy snuggle of a warm blanket, bliss!!

May you lean into letting go with ease and grace.

All my love - Vicki ❤️❤️

Integrity

Integrity is the integration of the inner and outer life, the spiritual and the ordinary. Without it, we are divided, and division always leads to disintegration.

Re Connection

Gentle reminder of the benefits of a regular energy treatment to reset, rebalance and recharge. Resting is pretty underrated in a capitalist society where everything has to be productive to have value.

Truth is, health and wellness are priceless!!

Let Love In 🫶🏽

My cup is overflowing with love and gratitude.

On the road home after a week away and four days at Between The Trees Festival in Bridgend. Booked spontaneously after a friend Maddy Harland mentioned she was speaking there and I needed no further information or recommendation.

What a truly beautiful experience this has been and a way to retrieve many things I had completely lost sight of. Living in community, under canvas, in nature and without the luxuries we inevitably take for granted, has been the wake up call I absolutely needed at this time.

Never before in my lifetime of camping have I had four consecutive days of torrential downpours, several times a day. The tent miraculously stayed dry and as I woke up in the middle of the night, again, to this incredible force of nature: water, wind, lightning and the thrill of wildness, my cup and my heart are full.

Maybe we all need at least one camping trip a year to rewild, reboot and re plant our roots!!

Cultivate Joy

One thing I love which makes me feel alive, is to swim in the sea. Today we headed far from the madding crowds and found this magical cove. It took my breath away as I gazed down from the top of the cliffs. Like many of the best beaches it was a scramble and very rocky underfoot, which only added to the excitement and sense of adventure!!

Joy is more profound than happiness and its effects are longer lasting. It leaves an imprint on your heart and the good news is that joy is self generated and can be found in the simplest of everyday things and experiences.

Rewilding Myself

Nature has the most incredible capacity to remind us what matters. Sitting on top of the cliffs, exposed to the elements and with nothing but sky and ocean as far as the eye can see, anything is possible!!

Choose Love

“Fear doesn’t prevent death, it prevents life.”
- Naguib Mahfouz

I have been contemplating how there are really only two emotions: Love and Fear. The reaction to many things we see around us at the moment is essentially fear. It may come in the guise of racism, misogyny, homophobia, ageism, fascism and more.

The reaction we experience is often anger, vile remarks, aggression, criticism and violent opposition. Yet beneath all of these things is fear, even though it may be unrecognised. When you surround yourself with love, with people who accept you for who you are and you learn over time to accept yourself, there is no need for fear.

Falling is not an option when you know the net will appear.

All my love - Vicki ❤️❤️
