Room With a View

View from my home office today attending an interesting webinar: Keeping Testosterone in Check by Lamberts Healthcare with expert Naturopath and Nutritional Therapist Shoela Curry. My takeaway message is the importance of the right levels of testosterone for both men and women and that optimal levels are often much higher than guidelines suggest. Testosterone is more than a s*x hormone!!

Still digesting a lot of the evidence based information and contemplating why levels are not routinely checked for a range of symptoms and conditions raised at GP consults?

As a menopausal woman, this has never been mentioned by any statutory health care practitioner. Time for a deeper dive methinks…👍

Wellness Matters

Wellness, like a lot of words at the moment has become fashionable and means different things to different people.

I have long held the view that the best way to treat anything is to adopt an approach of prevention and damage limitation. I apply this to just about everything whether it’s health related or nipping in the bud something that needs attention around the house, garden or a slipped tile on the roof. One slipped tile, left untreated, becomes a leak which may necessitate re plastering the whole wall!!

A conversation this week reminded me of an attitude dominant within our statutory health care system which is reaction, rather than actively seeking, exploring and working out how to prevent things going wrong in the first place.

It’s multi faceted, may seem complex and even complicated. Actually it’s more of a shift in mindset which is required. Shifting from treatment to prevention and that ill health is inevitable, to the possibility that most things are preventable in the first place. This is in fact evidence based, especially when it comes to degenerative disease.
Truth is, it’s never just a thought.

Be well stay well.

Fringe Benefits

Public the musical is a brand new show which has journeyed from the Edinburgh Fringe to Curve Leicester. A long time advocate for live theatre and performance as a tool for awakening, questioning and education, I loved the immediate impact this innovative concept opens up to the audience. The chance meeting of four individuals with very different life experiences and perspectives get locked in a public toilet overnight and are forced to confront and share their reality with one another.

This timely connection enables us, and them, to see with clarity the similarities of human doubt, insecurity and emotional frailty which are common threads connecting us all, regardless of the masks we wear.

Heartfelt, true and wholly accessible, this show is a timely reminder that when s**t hits the fan and we’re stripped of social veneer, we are essentially all made of the same messy stuff!!

A triumph for CURVE theatre, Leicester 🎭

Growing Together

We are racing towards summer solstice and after periods of both sunshine and rain there is an overwhelming abundance of the lushest green as far as the eye can see!!

Our quarterly newsletter goes out ahead of the solstice and I am thinking about the sacredness of life. A sure way to reconnect with what really matters is to step outside, come rain or shine, and immerse yourself in natures healing balm.

Playtime Magic

There are some people and places that set you free, they bring out the spontaneous, the naughty, the cheeky, they remind you of your inner child and the need to play.

It’s a serious business being an adult. A never ending list of jobs to do, a home to look after, food to buy and cook, washing to keep up with, and bills to pay. There is also an expectation of “grown up” behaviour which comes from society and also from ourselves. A view of how adults should dress, speak, behave and interact. Somewhere in the midst all of this adulting, the child within craves a laugh out loud joke, a deep belly laugh and a bucketful of silliness.

I love to play and instantly notice people I can play with. Those who are comfortable with the banal, laughing hysterically at nothing, being naughty because they can and generally lightening up.

We need to play, we need to laugh and see the lighter side of life. Maybe if lunch break was renamed Playtime we would all feel a bit more inclined to shout “tig, you’re it!!”

All my love - Vicki ❤️❤️
