Complex Removal of Crystallised Keratin from the Eardrum with T-Tube Following Antibiotic Use Using the WAXscope®️

This video demonstrates the removal of hardened, crystallised keratin adherent to the tympanic membrane in an ear containing a T-Tube.

The patient had recently used antibiotic treatment, and the remaining keratinous material had become dry and firmly adherent around the eardrum and ventilation tube.

Because the T-Tube needed to remain undisturbed, the material required careful progressive mobilisation rather than forceful extraction.

Severely Impacted Ear Wax Removal Using the WAXscope®️

This video demonstrates removal of a severe cerumen impaction using the WAXscope®.

When ear wax becomes densely impacted, visualisation of the deeper ear canal can be significantly restricted. Removal therefore requires a controlled, progressive approach with continuous reassessment as the obstruction is cleared.

Why Her Ears Get So Itchy: Hardened Keratin Removal Using the iCLEARscope®️

This patient requires professional ear clearance approximately twice a year because of recurrent accumulation of hardened keratin and ear wax.

As the material builds up, the patient develops significant itching and discomfort.

The hardened keratin is different from routine soft cerumen and requires careful progressive mobilisation rather than forceful extraction.

The iCLEARscope® provided continuous endoscopic vision, supporting precise instrument control and allowing the ear canal to be continually reassessed as the material was removed.

This case highlights how recurrent keratin accumulation can become both symptomatic and technically challenging, particularly when the material hardens between appointments.

Another Successful WAXscope®️ Eardrum Challenge! 🎯

Another excellent performance from our recent Clearwax Cerumen Management Training Course, this time from Siji Joy-George, Audiologist.

For our customary Eardrum Challenge, I deliberately positioned simulated ear wax directly against the eardrum, giving Siji the task of carefully removing it using the WAXscope®️.

Working at this depth can understandably feel daunting. The exceptional HD magnification and clarity provided by the WAXscope®️ allows the clinician to clearly visualise the wax, instrument and eardrum simultaneously, helping develop the precision, control and confidence required when working deeper within the ear canal.

Siji successfully completed the challenge — another fantastic demonstration of what our delegates can achieve during hands-on training. 👏🏼

Canal Wall Down Mastoidectomy Stripped of Itchy Dead Skin Using the iCLEARscope®️

This video demonstrates the removal of accumulated dead skin from a Canal Wall Down mastoid cavity.

The patient was experiencing significant itching, with dry keratinised skin distributed throughout the altered post-surgical anatomy.

Canal Wall Down surgery creates an open mastoid cavity that communicates with the ear canal. This larger and more irregular surface area can allow keratin and dry skin to accumulate and may require periodic professional clearance.

The iCLEARscope® provided continuous endoscopic vision, supporting careful progressive mobilisation and stripping of the dead skin while the underlying cavity was continuously monitored.

Jetwashed Ear Wax Removal using the WAXscope®️

This patient attempted to remove their ear wax at home using a shower head.

Unfortunately, rather than flushing the obstruction out, the water pressure pushed the wax further into the ear canal and significantly softened it.

The resulting cerumen had a very wet, soft Type 6/7 consistency, making it more difficult to engage and control than a firmer ear wax plug.

The WAXscope® provided magnified HD vision throughout the procedure, supporting precise instrument positioning, controlled progressive removal and continuous monitoring of the surrounding ear canal.

This case is a good example of how attempting to flush an ear at home can sometimes make an existing blockage more difficult to manage.

A narrow canal provides less working space for instruments, while erythematous tissue may be more sensitive and requires careful monitoring during the procedure.

Huge Amount of Ear Wax Removed Using the WAXscope®️

This video demonstrates the removal of a substantial accumulation of ear wax using the WAXscope®.

When a large volume of cerumen obstructs the ear canal, the deeper anatomy may initially be partially or completely hidden. The wax therefore needs to be progressively mobilised, with the canal continually reassessed as clearance proceeds.

Canal Wall Up Mastoidectomy & Myringoplasty Ear Clearance Using the iCLEARscope®️

This video demonstrates clearance of a post-surgical ear following a Canal Wall Up mastoidectomy and previous myringoplasty.

Unlike a Canal Wall Down mastoidectomy, the posterior canal wall is preserved in a Canal Wall Up procedure, so the external auditory canal retains a more conventional shape.

However, previous surgery can still alter the anatomy, landmarks and tissue appearance, making assessment and clearance more technically demanding than routine ear wax removal.
