❤️ World Blood Donor Day 2026 ❤️

One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.

Having worked in hospital settings, I have seen first-hand how vital blood donations can be.

Behind every blood transfusion is a person, a family, and a story. Whether it’s supporting someone after an accident, during surgery, cancer treatment, childbirth, or managing a long-term health condition, donated blood can make a life-changing difference.

This year’s World Blood Donor Day campaign highlights the importance of:
🩸 Increasing regular voluntary blood donation
🩸 Raising awareness of the life-saving impact of blood and plasma donation
🩸 Recognising the incredible contribution of blood donors
🩸 Strengthening access to safe blood supplies for everyone who needs them

Blood cannot be manufactured. It relies entirely on the kindness and generosity of people who choose to donate.

To everyone who gives blood, thank you. Your donation may take only a short time, but its impact can last a lifetime.

Our book club recently discussed Brain Food by Lisa Mosconi.

Overall, the group enjoyed the book and everyone felt they learned something from it. However, many found it quite factual and scientific, meaning it wasn’t a book they could sit and read for long periods. Several members preferred to read a few pages at a time or dip in and out of different sections rather than read it cover to cover.

Some felt the content was quite medical in places, and one member thought the tone came across as slightly condescending at times. Despite this, the information was considered interesting and thought-provoking.

Particular interest was shown in the comparisons between diets around the world, especially the Mediterranean diet and the Western diet. The MRI evidence demonstrating differences in brain health and structure sparked plenty of discussion and gave a visual perspective to the research presented.

The food pyramid and recommendations for supporting brain health were generally viewed as realistic and achievable, with members feeling that many of the suggested changes could be incorporated into everyday life.

As always, we would recommend the book to anyone with an interest in nutrition, brain health, or the science behind how food affects our wellbeing. While some members found it a little heavy going at times, everyone took away new knowledge and valuable insights from the read.

Our next bookclub is Thursday 2nd July at The Gray and White Bookshop where we will be discussing The Psychopath Inside by James Fallon.

Health Coaching Words Explained. Today’s word is:

Wellbeing

As we come to the end of this Health Coaching Words Explained series, it feels fitting to finish with perhaps the most important word of all.

Wellbeing.

Many people think wellbeing is simply about being healthy, but it is much broader than that.

It’s about how we feel physically, mentally, emotionally and socially.

It’s having enough energy to do the things that matter to us.

It’s feeling connected to people we care about.

It’s finding moments of joy, purpose and fulfilment, and perhaps most importantly…

Wellbeing looks different for everyone.

For one person it might be running a marathon.

For another it might be walking the dog, spending time with family, enjoying a hobby, getting a good night’s sleep, or simply finding a few moments of peace in a busy day.

There is no one-size-fits-all definition.

As a health coach, I believe wellbeing isn’t about striving for perfection.

It’s about understanding what helps you feel at your best and finding realistic, sustainable ways to make more of that part of your life.

🌿 Today’s reminder:

Wellbeing isn’t about perfecting every area of life. It’s about understanding what matters most to you

Foody Friday with Health Coaching Words Explained. Today’s word is:

Nourishment

A word often used in health coaching, but what does it really mean?

Many people think nourishment is simply about eating healthy foods, but nourishment is much broader than that.

Food can provide:
đź’š energy for our bodies,
đź’š nutrients to support our health,
đź’š enjoyment,
đź’š comfort,
đź’š connection with family and friends,
đź’š and memories that last a lifetime.

Nourishment isn’t about perfection.

It’s about choosing foods that support your wellbeing while still allowing space for enjoyment and balance.

Today’s reminder:

Food is more than fuel. It can nourish both body and mind. 🌿

What food helps you feel nourished?

Our recipe today is Mediterranean Mezze Platter. Easy to make and delicious for one, or add extra items and share with friends and family.

On my platter is:
* Hummus
* Carrot and cucumber sticks
* Cherry tomatoes
* Olives
* Wholegrain pitta
* Feta
* Grapes or strawberries

✨Health Coaching Words Explained. Today’s word is

Motivation

A word we hear a lot when it comes to health and wellbeing, but what is motivation?

Many people think motivation is something you either have or you don’t.

In reality, motivation comes and goes.

Some days we feel energised and ready to take on the world.

Other days, not so much.

The important thing to remember is that waiting for motivation isn’t always the answer.

Often, taking a small action first can help create motivation.

A short walk.
A healthy meal.
A glass of water.
Five minutes spent on something important.

Small actions can create momentum, which in turn often creates motivation.

Today’s reminder:

You don’t need to feel motivated to take the first step. Sometimes the first step creates the motivation. 🌿

đź’Ť Wedding Wellness Wednesday with health coaching words explained.
Today’s word:

Balance

A word we hear often in health and wellbeing conversations, but what does balance actually mean?

Many people imagine balance as giving everything in life equal time and attention.

In reality, balance is often about making conscious choices about where your time and energy need to go.

When planning a wedding, it’s easy for the to-do list to take over.

Appointments, budgets, guest lists, suppliers, seating plans…

Before long, wedding planning can start to feel like a second job.

Balance doesn’t mean ignoring your wedding plans.

It means remembering that your wellbeing matters too.

đź’š Prioritising sleep.
đź’š Taking breaks.
đź’š Spending time with people who matter.
đź’š Continuing activities you enjoy.
đź’š Allowing yourself moments that have nothing to do with weddings.

A wedding is one day.

Your health, happiness, and relationships are for life.

Today’s reminder:

Don’t get so busy planning the celebration that you forget to enjoy the journey. 🤍

Health Coaching Words Explained, today’s word is:

Ambivalence

A word often used in health coaching, but what does it actually mean?

Simply put, ambivalence means having mixed feelings about change.

It’s when part of you wants to make a change…but another part of you isn’t quite ready.

For example:

đź’š You want to exercise more, but enjoy your evenings relaxing.

💚 You want to eat healthier, but don’t want to give up your favourite treats.

đź’š You want to reduce stress, but struggle to find time for yourself.

Ambivalence is completely normal.

In fact, most people experience it whenever they’re considering a change.

Health coaching isn’t about forcing change.

It’s about exploring those mixed feelings, understanding what’s important to you, and helping you move forward in a way that feels realistic and achievable.

Today’s reminder:

You can want change and still feel uncertain.

The two can exist together. 🌿

✨ Health Coaching Words Explained. Today’s word is:

Accountability

A word often used in health coaching, but what does it actually mean?

Many people hear the word accountability and think of being checked up on, criticised, or told off.

In reality, accountability is much more supportive than that. It is about having someone who helps you stay focused on the goals and actions that are important to you.

Someone who encourages you.
Someone who helps you reflect on what’s working.
Someone who helps you get back on track when life gets busy.

Accountability isn’t about perfection.

It’s about creating the support and structure that helps turn good intentions into action.

How many times have you said?
💚 “I’ll start next week.”
💚 “I’ll do it when I have more time.”
💚 “I’ll get back to it soon.”

Sometimes having someone alongside us can make all the difference.

Monday reminder:

Small actions, repeated consistently, often lead to the biggest changes.
