Alex Allan Nutrition

Alex Allan Nutrition Alex Allan BSc (Hons) NT, Dip BCNH, mBANT, regCNHC is a Registered Nutritional Therapist and BANT-registered Nutritionist.

After spending more than 20 years working in a corporate environment, I moved to Nutritional Therapy after discovering the diet and lifestyle changes transformed my health. Since then, I’ve wanted to share that life-changing experience and help other people. Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. I use a wide ra

nge of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. This approach allows me to work with individuals to address nutritional balance and help support the body towards maintaining health. Nutritional therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine and is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those looking for support to enhance their health and wellbeing. I consider each individual to be unique and recommend personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. I never recommend nutritional therapy as a replacement for medical advice and always refer any client with ‘red flag’ signs or symptoms to their medical professional. I will also frequently work alongside a medical professional and will communicate with other healthcare professionals involved in the client’s care to explain any nutritional therapy programme that has been provided.

It's World Wellbeing Week, and for many people that's a useful reminder of something they already know deep down: You can't keep pouring energy into everyone else while completely ignoring yourself.
Life gets busy.

Work deadlines, family responsibilities, appointments, school runs, ageing parents, endless admin. It's very easy for your own health and wellbeing to drift further and further down the priority list while you just keep pushing through.

Many of the people who come to work with me aren't looking for perfection.
They're simply looking for a way to feel more in control of their health, better understand what's going on in their body and make realistic changes that fit around real life.

One thing I hear time and time again is that having support, structure and a personalised approach helps people feel more confident about looking after themselves.

I've shared a few kind words from past clients in this post, and I'm always incredibly grateful when people take the time to share their experiences.

If you've been putting your own wellbeing on the back burner for a while, perhaps World Wellbeing Week is a good opportunity to check in with yourself and think about what support you might need.

Today is International Day of Yoga.

For years, yoga has often been marketed in a way that makes people think it's only for certain types of people. Usually young, very flexible and often female.
The reality is very different.

Yoga can be adapted for a wide range of ages, fitness levels and abilities, and many people use it as a way to support strength, balance, flexibility and overall wellbeing.

These are all areas that become increasingly important as we age, regardless of whether you're a man or a woman.

Many people also find that yoga gives them an opportunity to slow down, focus on their breathing and take a break from the constant pace of everyday life.

You don't have to be able to touch your toes.
You don't have to spend hours doing it.
And you certainly don't have to be good at it.

Sometimes simply moving your body in a different way is a good place to start.
Have you ever tried yoga?

Have you ever found yourself thinking:

"I don't know what's changed, but my body just doesn't seem to cope the way it used to."

Perhaps your sleep has become more disrupted.
Your energy feels less reliable.
Stress hits harder than it once did.
Or the habits that worked perfectly well in your 20s and 30s suddenly don't seem to have the same effect.

It's a conversation I have with many women during perimenopause and midlife.
One of the biggest misconceptions is that hormone health is simply about having too much or too little of a particular hormone. In reality, hormones are influenced by many different factors, including sleep, stress, blood sugar balance, nutrition and overall lifestyle.
That's why midlife can sometimes feel so confusing.

In my latest blog, ‘Why Midlife Hormones Feel So Chaotic’, I explore some of the reasons behind these changes and share practical nutrition and lifestyle strategies that may help support resilience during this stage of life.
The aim isn't to eat perfectly or get everything right. It's about understanding what's happening in your body and finding small changes that work for you.

🥗 Simple summer meals can do a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to supporting your health.

One of the easiest ways to build a nourishing meal is to combine good quality protein, healthy fats and plenty of colourful plant foods.

This summer salmon and avocado salad is a great example.
It combines:
• Salmon, providing protein and omega-3 fats to support overall health and wellbeing
• Avocado, offering healthy monounsaturated fats alongside fibre and important nutrients
• A variety of colourful salad vegetables, contributing fibre and plant compounds that help support a balanced diet

It's fresh, satisfying and ideal for warmer days when you want something lighter without feeling hungry an hour later.

I've shared the full recipe (plus a printable PDF) inside my free Facebook group.

👉 Join Back to Health with Sarah and Alex to get the recipe and lots more practical nutrition and wellbeing support.

It's Men's Health Week, and it's a good reminder that looking after your health doesn't have to mean turning your life upside down.
In fact, the foundations are often surprisingly simple.

Getting enough sleep. Managing stress. Eating well most of the time. Staying active. Keeping an eye on things like energy levels, sleep, digestion and overall wellbeing.

These are some of the topics I explore in my blog, Top Tips for Men's Health.
It's packed with practical advice to help you take a proactive approach to your wellbeing, without getting overwhelmed by conflicting health messages.
One thing I've learned from working with many male clients over the years is that most aren't looking for perfection. They want realistic advice that fits around work, family life and everything else they've got going on.
If that sounds familiar, I'd encourage you to have a read.

You'll find Top Tips for Men's Health in the blog section of my website, along with other articles including Prostate Care You Can't Ignore and Spotlight on Men's Health.

When was the last time you took a proper look at your health?

Not because something was wrong.
Not because you'd been told to.
Just to check that the way you're eating, moving and living is supporting the life you want to lead.

Many of the men I work with are busy balancing careers, family life and endless responsibilities. Looking after themselves often ends up at the bottom of the list.
That's exactly why I created my Annual Wellbeing MOT.

It's a chance to take stock of your health, review your lifestyle, look at relevant blood test results and identify any areas that might benefit from some attention.

Together we'll explore what's working well, where there may be room for improvement and what practical steps could help support your health goals over the coming year.

The programme includes a detailed health and lifestyle review, personalised nutrition guidance, body composition measurements, blood test recommendations and a follow-up consultation to discuss everything in detail.

Many men come to see me through recommendations from friends, family members and colleagues who have already been through the process themselves.

If you've been meaning to focus on your health but haven't quite got round to it, Men's Health Week could be the perfect time to start.

It's Diabetes Awareness Week and this is a topic that's particularly close to my heart, which is why I wrote a blog called Diabetes and Me.

In it, I share some of my own connection to diabetes, along with why I care so deeply about helping people understand and manage their health.

Over the years, I've worked with many people looking for support with diabetes and blood sugar management. In fact, it's one of the most common reasons people, particularly men, get in touch with me.

Often they've been told they need to make changes, but aren't sure where to start. Or they've tried making changes before and found it difficult to stick with them.

The good news is that nutrition and lifestyle changes don't have to be overwhelming. Small, practical steps can make a real difference over time.
If you'd like to read more, head over to my website and take a look at Diabetes and Me.

You'll find plenty of other blogs there too, covering nutrition, health and wellbeing.

Many women arrive in their 40s and 50s feeling as though somebody has changed the rules without telling them.

Sleep isn't what it used to be.
Stress feels harder to bounce back from.
Energy becomes less predictable.
And the things that worked perfectly well a few years ago suddenly don't seem to have the same effect.

One of the reasons this can feel so frustrating is that it's often difficult to know what's actually driving those changes.

That's why I've recently written a blog about DUTCH testing and how it can help build a more detailed picture of hormone patterns, stress responses and midlife health.

The test looks at a range of hormone and cortisol markers, helping us understand how your body may be responding to factors such as stress, sleep disruption and hormonal change.

For women who would like to explore this in more detail, I've also introduced a limited number of Annual Hormone MOT appointments.
This combines DUTCH testing with a detailed review of your health, symptoms, lifestyle, nutrition and hormone patterns, along with personalised recommendations and a clear plan for moving forward.

It's designed for women who are tired of guessing and would like a better understanding of what's going on in their body.

If you'd like to learn more, start with the blog on my website.
