It’s not your responsibility to change the story other people have created about you in their minds.
Sometimes, that story becomes so fixed that they simply can’t see past it.
This can happen in narcissistic and toxic dynamics, where people continue to see you as the version of yourself they are used to. Where acknowledging your growth means they have to question the narrative that keeps them feeling right and you wrong.
It's not your job to convince them. You don’t have to make them understand your growth or explain yourself.
Having the same conversations in the hope that, one day, they’ll finally see you differently - becomes exhausting.
If a dynamic has existed for years, sometimes decades. That story can feel almost written in stone.
Unless their actions and behaviours continue to keep you small, disrespected or dismissed.
Standing up for yourself doesn’t necessarily mean confrontation, arguments or one final heart-to-heart.
Sometimes, it looks like something much quieter. Where you become yourself again and start to live your life on your terms.
How? You do it by choosing peace over proving your point. You focus on rebuilding your self-love.
You plough into creating a foundation within yourself that their version of you can no longer touch.
Eventually, their story becomes exactly what it always was: Their story. Not yours.
You leave the past where it belongs, and come home to yourself.
That’s where your freedom begins. 🧡
