Organising a fireworks display this November?

Now is the time to make sure your medical arrangements are in place.

Every event is different, and appropriate medical provision shouldn't be based on attendance numbers alone. Site layout, crowd profile, weather, access and egress, event duration and the types of injuries that could reasonably occur all need to be considered.

In fact, the latest Purple Guide specifically identifies burns and eye irritation at fireworks events as examples of reasonably foreseeable medical presentations.

Community Response Explained – Episode 10

It's a question many domiciliary care providers face.

A carer arrives to find a service user on the floor.

They need help but it has to be 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲, 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 and 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 for everyone involved.

Our trained responders can attend with specialist lifting equipment, assess the individual and, where appropriate, safely assist them from the floor before determining whether further medical treatment is required.

The August Bank Holiday weekend certainly kept our teams busy, with our crews spread across the region providing medical support across a wide range of events and services.

🎶 Shrewsbury Folk Festival – our event medical team was out in force, providing medical cover throughout the festival and supporting thousands of festivalgoers across the weekend.

✈️ Airport Repatriation – while our event teams were busy, another part of the Marches team was supporting an airport repatriation, helping a patient safely continue their journey home.

⚽ Hereford FC – our team was also on duty at the football, providing medical cover and supporting the club and its supporters.

🎭 The AMP at The Courtyard Hereford – we were also proud to provide a Senior Clinician to support the event and ensure experienced clinical expertise was available when required.

A huge thank you to every member of our team who worked over the Bank Holiday weekend. Your flexibility, professionalism and commitment make all of this possible. 👏

🎶 Enjoying Shrewsbury Folk Festival 2026?

Our medical team is here throughout the festival to assist if you become unwell, sustain an injury, or need medical advice.

As well as urgent and minor injury care, we can take blood samples and arrange a comprehensive range of tests, including:

• Full blood count
• Kidney and liver function
• Cholesterol
• Blood sugar and diabetes checks
• Thyroid function
• Iron, vitamin B12, folate and vitamin D levels
• Prostate(PSA) blood tests
• General health screening profiles

Following an assessment, our clinicians can advise which tests may be appropriate. We are also able to arrange prescriptions.

Whether you have become unwell during the festival, have forgotten an essential medication, or have a health concern you would like assessed, please come and speak to us at the medical centre.

Absolutely.

Many people living in sheltered housing or assisted living remain completely independent, they simply have a little extra support available if they need it.

Marches Community Response is designed to complement that independence.

If you're a member, we can still attend when you're unwell, following a non-injury fall, or when somebody is concerned about your welfare.

Living in assisted accommodation doesn't mean you shouldn't have access to rapid, professional support when you need it.

In fact, many residents and their families value the additional reassurance that comes from knowing a dedicated Community Response team is only a phone call away.

Whether you live independently, in sheltered accommodation or an assisted living development, membership is available.

Founder memberships remain open ahead of our phased launch later this year.

Marches Community Response is being introduced in phases.

By limiting founder memberships, we can make sure every member receives the level of service we've promised.

It also allows us to:

✔ Maintain fast response times.

✔ Ensure our teams aren't overstretched.

✔ Learn and refine the service as it grows.

✔ Recruit and train additional responders safely.

As demand increases, we'll continue expanding the service responsibly.

Our priority has never been having the biggest membership.

Our priority is making sure every member receives the support they expect when they need us most.

🚑 WE’RE RECRUITING – UK & EUROPEAN REPATRIATION CREWS 🌍

Following continued growth in our patient transport and repatriation operations, we’re expanding our team at Marches Ambulance Service.

We’re looking for people across all clinical grades, including:

• Paramedics & Nurses
• Ambulance Technicians
• Emergency Care Assistants
• First Responders

Our repatriation work can take our crews anywhere from a few hours down the road to several days across Europe, supporting patients who need safe, professional transport back home or to their next place of care.

We’re looking for people who are professional, adaptable, patient-focused and happy to travel. You’ll need a full UK driving licence and passport, and be comfortable with trips that may involve overnight stays starting from our Herefordshire station.

European experience isn’t essential. We’ll provide the training, and our crews are fully supported throughout each deployment.
