I never realised what van life would do.
I thought it was just wheels and roads,
but it cracked something open in me.
Out here, I see freedom differently —
not the kind our government talks about,
wrapped up in rules and red tape,
but the kind you feel when the sunrise hits your windscreen,
when you pull over anywhere and call it home.
It’s not always easy —
sometimes it’s cold, sometimes it’s lonely,
sometimes it’s just bloody hard work.
But it’s real.
It’s mine.
And I’ve started to see how tightly they try to hold us,
how much they tell us what freedom should look like.
But freedom isn’t given, it’s taken.
It’s lived.
And I’d rather be out here,
with Luca, the road,
and my little van that carries my whole world,
than live the way they say we should.
Because this—
this is freedom to me.
