Garden House Hospice Care Providing free compassionate care & wellbeing support to patients, their families and carers in the community

08/09/2026

We’re aiming to raise £50,000 toward funding our Rehab and Wellbeing services. Eight-year-old Polly is one of the amazing people helping make this happen!

Last weekend Polly ran her very own lemonade and cake stand to support her Grandma Jenny, who was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's.

Jenny has been working closely with our Occupational Therapist, Claire, to figure out what she needs to manage her symptoms and keep doing the things she loves. Jenny said when she met our team for the first time she finally felt listened to 💙

Thanks to Polly’s wonderful effort, she raised £414.56! That’s nearly enough to cover a full day of activities from our Rehab and Wellbeing Team, who help make every moment matter for people like her grandma. Polly’s contribution goes to show that every penny counts when the community comes together.

Could you help us reach our target? To donate, go to https://www.ghhospicecare.org.uk/every-moment-matters or to set up your own fundraiser, please visit https://www.ghhospicecare.org.uk/organise-your-own-event 🔗

This year, it will cost £162,726 to provide our Rehab and Wellbeing services free of charge.

Our Every Moment Matters campaign to raise funds for our Rehab and Wellbeing Team has reached 56% of our £50,000 target so far. Thank you to everyone who has donated!

With less than half of our funding coming from the Government, it’s down to your generosity that we can continue providing this specialised care. A donation of £57 could fund a life-changing group session with our Rehab and Wellbeing team.

Please visit https://www.ghhospicecare.org.uk/every-moment-matters to donate today and help make every moment matter for more people 💙

Laura’s younger sister, Vicky, first came into contact with Garden House on New Year’s Eve in 2025 in what would be the first of three stays on our Inpatient Unit. The mum of two had been struggling with pain relating to a triple negative breast cancer diagnosis and had lost the use of her arm, making it difficult to care for her young family at home.

Laura described Vicky as a strong and loving person who she was very proud of. She is taking part in our Sunset Starlight Walk this year to remember Vicky and thank the Hospice for the care they provided her, already raising over £4,700.

"Without the Hospice, there wouldn’t be any family support or support for the boys, and Vicky’s care wouldn’t have been so personalised," Laura shared. "Here, they knew what she needed and she was comfortable and happy. It’s a lovely place and I wanted to do the Sunset Starlight Walk to give something back to them.

"I remember speaking to Vicky about it before she passed because I kept seeing the poster when I was visiting her. She was so proud of me when I hit over £1,000 with my fundraising, and it’s made me even more determined to do it in her memory as well."

There's still time to register to join Laura and other members of our community on our ‘walk to remember’ next Saturday 12th September. Sign up now at https://www.ghhospciecare.org.uk/event/sunset-starlight-walk 🌇💙

We have nominated our superstar fundraiser and organiser of the annual Farmers on Christmas Lights Tour, Richard Hill, for a BBC Three Counties Radio 'Make a Difference Award' 🌟

Tara Gungaphul caught up with Richard on yesterday morning's show, alongside our Fundraising Director, Carla, and Communications Manager, Aaron. The now famous tractor rally has made an incredible difference to our Hospice, raising more than £250,000 over the last six years!

The award category of Fundraiser states that "This award is for an individual or group who has shown exceptional commitment to raise funds for a charity or good cause. It could be because they have met an ambitious fundraising target or because they go above and beyond the call of duty to raise money."

We couldn't think of anyone who better fits this description than Richard... and he's not stopping there! This year's Farmers on Christmas Lights Tour will take place on Sunday 20th December, once again seeing the tractor convoy parade through the streets of Baldock, Letchworth and Hitchin.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 28th September at Grove Theatre in Dunstable. Good luck, Richard, and a heartfelt thank you for all you do! 💙

Although Garden House is no longer in financial crisis, we cannot forget the sacrifices we made at the beginning of this year to get us there. We were forced to cut services, and our Inpatient Unit remains operating only 8 out of 12 beds to this day because we simply cannot afford to staff them.

We are so grateful for every donation, every fundraiser, every volunteer - every single person who supports us. Without you, we wouldn't be here today, providing people compassionate care and maintaining their dignity during their final phase of life.

But the Government must do more. They must act now and back the plan for fair Hospice funding before it is too late.

They provide absolutely vital end-of-life care, but hospices are facing a financial crisis.
