📍 Bedfordshire + Online | Start here: The Tightly Wound Body ↓ Clinical Essential Somatics is Neuromuscular movement re-education that teaches people to regain voluntary control of muscles that have become involuntarily and chronically contracted due to a

daptation to accidents, injuries, surgeries, major illnesses or on-going/repetitive emotional or physical stress. Thomas Hanna (Hanna Somatics) termed this state of chronically tight muscles that can't let go as Sensory Motor Amnesia (SMA) and described SMA as the root cause chronic pain. By improving the connection between the brain and the muscles people learn to regain sensation and motor control of muscles and movement. Chronically tight muscles affect physical structure and alter posture and movement. Examples of Sensory Motor Amnesia include:

• chronic back pain
• sciatica
• leg length discrepancy
• hip pain
• altered gait
• plantarfasciitis
• piriformis syndrome
• TMJ/TMD
• neck/shoulder pain
• scoliosis

Those suffering from SMA lose their ability to release and relax muscles and move freely. Clinical Essential Somatics is taught in 1:1 session with hands on work with the practitioner, focusing on the clients patterns of restricted movement and SMA. Groups classes, are weekly classes that teach Somatic movements and are suitable for those new to Somatics and those whom have undertaken clinical sessions.

'Essential Somatics' builds on the work of Thomas Hanna (Hanna Somtics), as well as bringing in the work of new pioneers in the field of Somatic Movement.

Sometimes my Insta is quite gym focused, sometimes I’m in clinic talking about pain, sometimes it’s just me doing me!

Getting across a lot of years worth of experience isn’t always easy, so here’s a little bit of info for those of you that may or may not know me!

I started out teaching Outdoor Education
Retrained as a McTimoney Chiropractor
Have completed loads of training related to that
Am a personal trainer love rehab
Teach Clinical Somatics
Nearly have my MSc in Clinical Pain Management

I love the outdoors, have a range of instructor qualifications, been a guide leader and a scout leader.

And I do really love cake!! But not chocolate cake!

Why create the STRONG FOUNDATIONS workshop for women?

Lots of reasons really.

We see a lot of women showing up, getting it done, but still looking lost.

Often on their own, unsure of weights, techniques and progressions.

The gym and lifting space is still a relatively new place for women to be and we hear many women saying they aren’t comfortable in the free weights area or find they just do the same thing.

So are here to help change that, to build confidence, through improved competence and build a community along the way!

From clinic to gym and back again!

Sometimes fitting in the gym can be a challenge, being 5 minutes away has meant I can actually get there train and get back to clinic when I’m working late.

It also means I can take time to switch off and regroup between patients.

Working with chronic pain is complex, challenging and rewarding.

It’s a very popular movement particularly among females

hitting it right,
feeling the connection,
not getting back pain,
using a good weight to resist against
are all important factors!

So here’s a quick snippet of a couple of key pointers to get to started!

We want you to understand training techniques, what you’re looking to feel, how to do it and why!

We want you to feel confident in the gym, in your lifting and in your body!

It’s not about going through the motions it’s about giving you the tools to be self sufficient on the gym floor or your home set up.

Whatever your goal is, having a strong foundation gives you the skills you need to reach them, competently and confidently!

This summer we’re launching STRONG FOUNDATIONS a ladies only lifting workshop for females who are done guessing and ready to actually get it.

We’re covering everything that nobody teaches you:

How to feel your training working, not just go through the motions.

How to structure a session so you walk in with a plan.

How to adapt movements for your body, including hypermobility.

The nutrition basics that support real progress.

How to build a training approach you can take to any gym, any class, any home workout, for life.

This isn’t about being a bodybuilder. It’s about understanding your body well enough to train it properly, at any age, any starting point.

Maximum 12 females.
Closed session.
No audience.
Just learning.

Yes these images show our physical transformations,

Because it’s so easy for people to see where you are and not where you’ve been!

We know what we’re talking about not only because of our professional experience,

But also and maybe more importantly our personal experience,

We’re both mums, we’re both professional high achieving women and we’ve been there!

Of course we are both super proud of our physical achievements but there is so much more too it than that,

Our personal growth is so much more, our overall health, how we show up for our children, the list goes on.

So we are showing you this to say we know, we get it,

But this really is just one small aspect of something that is so much more than how we look!

Twenty years of coaching across health and fitness, and the same three things come up every single time, no matter what the discipline.

Confidence. Competence. Connection.

It doesn’t matter if you’re just starting out, finding your way back, or you’ve been training for years and know something still isn’t clicking. There is always room to grow in those areas.

Always.

That’s how we learn anything, we understand what we’re doing, we practise it, we get better at it.

And along the way we find our people.

The ones a little further ahead.
The ones we quietly show up for.

Strong Foundations is exactly that.

A ladies only workshop coming to this summer, for females who are brand new to the gym, returning after a break, navigating something like hypermobility, or who’ve been training for a while and just want to finally feel like it’s all making sense.

And even better I will be joined by the amazing Laura Penny between us will we be giving you all our knowledge and experience and believe me when I say we’ve both been where you are!
