PCOS — it’s about so much more than your periods. 🤍
Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal condition that can affect women in lots of different ways and no two women will necessarily experience it in the same way.
Some women may experience irregular or absent periods, acne, excess hair growth, thinning hair or difficulty losing weight. Others may experience symptoms such as fatigue, mood changes, migraines or ringing in the ears.
PCOS can also be linked with insulin resistance, which can affect the way your body responds to insulin and can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
And something that often gets overlooked… PCOS can affect how you feel day to day. Your energy, confidence, relationship with food, mood and relationship with your body can all be affected.
And I know this one personally…
I have PCOS too. For me, one of the things I noticed was the impact it had on my menstrual cycle. My periods were affected and I didn’t always feel like my body was working with me.
Since starting The 1:1 Diet, I’ve seen a real improvement in my cycle and it has become much more regular — and for me, that was one of the signs that something was changing beyond just the number on the scales.
That’s one of the reasons PCOS is something I’m so passionate about talking about with my clients.
It’s not just about weight loss. It’s about understanding your body, supporting your health and feeling better in yourself. 🤍
PCOS doesn’t mean you’re stuck with how you feel now. Small, consistent lifestyle changes can make a real difference. Focusing on balanced nutrition, regular movement, sleep, stress management and a healthy weight where appropriate can all form part of managing PCOS.
And if you recognise several of these symptoms, don’t simply put them down to “just hormones”. Speak to your GP or healthcare professional if you’re concerned about your symptoms or think you may have PCOS.
