NHS Grampian steps up action to reduce ketamine-related harm

NHS Grampian is stepping up efforts to reduce ketamine-related harm with the launch of a specialist new Ketamine Bladder Clinic at the same time as a new social media campaign targeting 13 to 25-year-olds gets underway to raise awareness of the serious health risks associated with taking the drug.

To mark International Overdose Awareness Day we give thanks to the incredible drive of Zoe Hisbent from David Torrance MSP’s office, and our manager Martin, for contacting Fife Council to ask them to turn the lights purple along the Kirkcaldy Mile, down the Prom last night. As the tide rolled in some people took a personal moment by the water to reflect and remember those no longer here. 💜

Today is a day for reflection, remembrance, and action. Overdose has touched far too many of us stealing the heartbeats of sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, friends, and neighbors far too soon. DAPL was born over 30 years ago as a community response to overdose, and that founding fire still drives us today: to save lives, offer hope, and ensure no family has to walk this pain alone.While we had hoped to light the iconic Rail Bridge purple this year, a symbol of strength standing steadfast through every storm however it wasn't meant to be. But community spirit always finds a way.Thanks to the incredible drive of Zoe Hisbent from David Torrance MSP’s office, Fife Council will be turning the lights purple along the Kirkcaldy Mile down the Prom this evening. As the tide rolls in tonight, we invite you to take a personal moment by the water to reflect, remember those we’ve lost, and hold space for everyone left behind across our Fife communities.

The Aims of the Study: Some people who have babies develop mental health problems during the perinatal period (from pregnancy until a year after birth) ​. Neurodivergent people have a higher risk of mental health problems during this time. This may be because of extra challenges, such as dealing with sensory overload and emotional difficulties.

Current questionnaires used to check for mental health problems during the perinatal period were developed based on the experiences of neurotypical people. There is no questionnaire to check for mental health problems during the perinatal period in neurodivergent people. This may make it harder to spot mental health issues, so they may not be getting the support they need.

This study aims to develop and test a new questionnaire to check for mental health problems during the perinatal period in autistic and ADHD people. The study has two goals: 1) to create a questionnaire based on the experiences of autistic and ADHD people, clinicians, and existing research; 2) to test how well this new questionnaire works.

DAPL is pleased to offer placements to students interested in addictions, leveraging our 32 years of experience providing specialised, trauma-informed psychotherapy .

Oliwer has completed a four-month placement with us as part of his MSc in Clinical Psychology at Stirling University. We wish him the best in his future education and career journey.
