Chailey Heritage Foundation Sussex charity educating and caring for children and young people with complex physical disabilities and health needs aged 3-25.

The charity encompasses Chailey Heritage School, Chailey Heritage Residential, Chailey Heritage Futures and Chailey Heritage Pathways. The School is a non-maintained special school where pupils are given every opportunity to make progress towards fulfilment. Chailey Heritage Residential offers flexible care packages up to 52 weeks a year. Chailey Heritage Futures, our transition provision for 19-2

5 year olds, is where young disabled adults are helped to develop life skills in preparation for adulthood, both in our purpose-built accommodation and via sessions at Futures Life Skills Centre, a state-of-the-art leisure and life-skills facility which is also open to people with disabilities in the wider community.

We joined Hanbury 's drama session, where the students attended a 'premier' to showcase a comedy film that some of their peers had made together earlier in the year. The lesson was a great success with a red carpet, fancy dress and plenty of sensory items to create an immersive and engaging experience for all. A certain student even decided to play a prank and throw some popcorn 🍿

Drama sessions provide a great context for students to work on their my next steps with opportunities for engagement, communication and social interaction. It's always a great way to spend a Friday afternoon!

Farm Friday! 🫏

Some of the young people from St Martin’s enjoyed a hands-on session with our donkeys. They got to know George and Joe and helped with feeding time, giving them fresh carrots!

At Patchwork Farm, learning is part of every experience. Activities are linked to pupils’ ‘My Next Steps’ targets. Young people build confidence and skills while enjoying hands-on time with animals! 🐑

Fran is getting ready to tackle Africa’s highest peak next week. Alongside her work at Chailey, she is raising vital funds to support children and young people with complex needs!

“Working at Chailey Heritage Foundation is the most rewarding job in the world. Every day I get to work with the incredible young people living at Chailey and have the privilege to help them achieve their goals! I feel lucky to be taking on the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro whilst raising money for Chailey!” Fran shared.

And the winner is… 🌟

As part of The Bradbury Den opening, we hosted a scarecrow competition! and the theme was mystical creatures 🧜‍♀️

We’re delighted to announce that Newick School and Camelia Bungalows have jointly taken the top spot! 👏

The winner was revealed at the opening of The Bradbury Den and all of the incredible scarecrows are now part of a trail around the site for everyone to enjoy this summer.

The Bradbury Den, a new building on Chailey Heritage Foundation's already well-established therapeutic Patchwork Farm, was officially opened on 3 June by the Foundation’s Patron, HRH The Duchess of Gloucester.

The Duchess met young people from our school, donors, employees and trustees at the opening of the Den, an innovative structure offering both indoor and outdoor environments, allowing it to be used in all weather. School and community groups who visit will be able to learn about the environment and biodiversity, find out how a farm is run with teamwork and cooperation, and of course, meet some of the animals themselves – including guinea pigs, donkeys, goats and tortoises!
