Keep moving, your way.

Living with arthritis can make some everyday activities more difficult, but staying appropriately active can help support mobility, strength and independence.

And movement doesn’t have to mean formal exercise. A walk to the garden gate, tending a few pots, preparing lunch or simply moving regularly around the home all count.

Everyone is different, so it’s about finding activities that are comfortable and appropriate for the individual – and having a little support when it’s useful.

πŸ’š Keep moving. Keep doing. Keep enjoying the things that matter to you.

Sometimes a conversation really matters.

Good company can be as simple as doing a jigsaw together, playing cards, sharing a cup of tea or having someone who has time to sit and listen.

For an older person who spends a lot of time alone, that regular contact can become an important part of their week.

Care isn’t only about practical tasks. Companionship, conversation and feeling connected matter too.

Today, on World Mental Health Day, it’s a good reminder to make time for the people around us.

As the days get shorter, it can be easy to find ourselves spending more time indoors.

For an older person, making the most of the daylight can be particularly valuable – whether it’s a walk around the village, a trip to the shops, some time in the garden or simply getting out for a coffee.

Having someone there to provide a little support or companionship can make getting out feel easier and more enjoyable.

A coat on, shoes on, and off we go. Sometimes the simple things are the best.

Autumn might bring cooler mornings and shorter days, but it doesn’t have to mean giving up the things you enjoy.

A little support can make everyday activities easier – whether that’s spending time in the garden, getting out for a walk, shopping, preparing a meal or simply keeping up with familiar routines.

At Premiere Care, our focus is on helping people continue doing as much as they can for themselves, with support there when it’s needed.

Because good care should help you keep living life your way.

πŸ’œ Familiar things can mean so much

Today is World Alzheimer's Day.

For someone living with dementia, familiar surroundings, people and everyday routines can provide reassurance.

The chair they always sit in.
The garden they've tended for years.
Preparing vegetables for lunch.
Folding the washing.
Looking through a familiar photograph album.

These ordinary moments can be incredibly important.

Good dementia care doesn't automatically mean taking over everyday tasks. Wherever possible, it's about finding ways for someone to remain involved and continue doing the things that are familiar to them.

At Premiere Care, we support people in the place they know best β€” their own home.

πŸ₯• Good food doesn't have to be complicated

Preparing meals can sometimes become harder as we get older, particularly when cooking for one.

But eating well doesn't have to mean spending hours in the kitchen.

A warm bowl of soup, a favourite sandwich, some fruit or a simple home-cooked meal can all make a difference.

Our carers can help with shopping, preparing meals and drinks, or simply provide some company while a client prepares their own food.

Because sometimes the best support isn't doing something for someone.

It's doing it with them.

❀️ You know your age. Do you know your numbers?

This week is Know Your Numbers! Week, encouraging us all to know our blood pressure.

High blood pressure often has no obvious symptoms, so having it checked is the only way to know whether yours is high.

For older family members, it's a useful reminder that looking after our health isn't only about responding when something feels wrong.

Blood pressure can be checked at home, and checks may also be available through pharmacies, GP practices and other healthcare services.

Perhaps this week is the prompt to check your own numbers β€” and encourage someone you love to do the same.

❀️ Know your numbers. Know your blood pressure.

πŸ‚ A change in season can mean a change in routine

September often brings cooler mornings, shorter days and a return to more familiar routines after the summer.

For an older person living at home, those little seasonal changes can make a difference.

It might mean remembering a cardigan for a morning walk, making the most of daylight to get outside, restocking the cupboards or simply getting back into a regular routine of meals and activities.

A little support can help someone continue doing all those everyday things for themselves, safely and confidently.

At Premiere Care, that's exactly what we're here for: supporting independence, rather than taking it away.

🌀️ Enjoy the sunshine safely

Hot weather doesn't necessarily mean an older person needs to stay all day indoors.

Getting outside can be wonderful for our mood, independence and general wellbeing; it's simply about choosing the right time.

🚢 Try an early morning or evening walk
🌳 Choose somewhere with plenty of shade
πŸ‘’ Wear a sun hat and light clothing
πŸ’§ Take water with you
β˜€οΈ Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day

Sometimes a little companionship and support is all that's needed to help someone continue enjoying the places they love.

That's something our carers are very happy to provide.

πŸ’§ Little sips make a big difference

Older people don't always feel thirsty, even when their body needs more fluid.

In hot weather, encourage your loved one to drink **little and often** rather than waiting until they're thirsty.

Water isn't the only option either. You can also try:

πŸ‰ Watermelon and other fresh fruit
πŸ₯’ Cucumber and salad vegetables
πŸ“ Strawberries
πŸ₯£ Yoghurt and other fluid-rich foods
🧊 A cool drink kept within easy reach

Our carers can also provide practical support with drinks, meals and everyday routines at home.
