🌟 Vestibular Sensory Seeking 🌟
If any of the children you support are always on the move, love spinning, rocking, climbing or swinging or always seem to be upside down, this post is for you.

Children who are actively seeking movement, their vestibular system is craving input.

When we understand the why, we can support children in ways that feel regulating, safe, and joyful.
I’ve put together a simple visual guide explaining:
✨ What vestibular sensory seeking can look like
✨ Why some children need extra movement
✨ Practical ideas you can use at home or in school
✨ Equipment and activities that help meet this need safely
Supporting a child’s sensory system doesn’t have to be complicated. Small, intentional adjustments can make a huge difference to focus, emotional regulation, and wellbeing.
If you work with or care for a child who’s always on the move, this one’s for you. 💛

A huge thank you to those who have taken part in the research study so far, a polite reminder that there is a short survey following the presentation.

This final survey is crucial for the study, it helps to ascertain and understand how helpful the information is and how this can benefit practice and support in the future.

To access the second presentation, you can scan the QR code at the end of the presentation, use the link, or email me for a direct link.

For those who have not yet taken part and are interested in doing so, the study is open for two weeks (up until 4/4/26). The study includes access to a 45 minute training presentation on sensory processing needs and sensory differences for adults who support autisitc children. This is suitable for both parents and professionals.

Interoception - our bodies internal signals

children with a high interoceptive threshold may not register body sensations until they are so strong that they feel overwhelming.

Lets think of some examples..
children who feel extremerly hungry all of a sudden
children who may not wear a coat in cold weather, then suddenly feel freezing
children who don't realise they need the toilet until the last minute
children who expereince sudden fatigue

When the internal body signals are not registered until they meet a high threshold, they can suddenly feel overwhelming.

Have you seen this in any of the children you support? If you have any extra tips, pop them in the comments.

I am looking for participants who are interested in taking part in a pre-recorded online presentation on sensory processing differences and sensory needs.

The study is ideal for adults who support autistic children, this includes early years practioners, teachers, SENCOs, and parents and carers.

The presentation is around 45 minutes long, participants are asked to complete a short study before and after the presentation to help establish if the training has been beneficial and in what way.

"The government is to delay publishing its long-awaited overhaul of special educational needs provision in England as ministers seek to build a coalition among parents to support its changes."

Good that ministers aren't rushing into the wrong reforms, and that they want to hear about families' experiences. We're ready to talk to ministers any time about how families navigate the SEND system and what needs to change.
