We are privileged to provide Occupational Therapy to Witham Prospect School, we work in the school setting as well as in our specialist clinic. It’s wonderful to see the young people enjoying and benefiting from our input ✨🥰

Longboat Special Education Ltd

Occupational Therapy (OT) is a foundational element of our 24-hour curriculum, focusing on empowering our young people to navigate their world with as much independence as possible. These sessions are deeply person-centered, designed to address each student's unique sensory profile while building the functional skills needed for active citizenship.

Guided by our specialist OT and supported by their social anchor, these sessions move the young person from a state of "fizz" to a state of mastery and pure joy.

✨ Introducing Our Eating and Feeding Difficulties Assessment ✨

We’re pleased to share our brand new Eating and Feeding Difficulties Assessment, designed to provide specialist support for children and families navigating feeding challenges.

This assessment is carried out by a qualified occupational therapist who is a certified Eating as Learning Framework Practitioner, with additional specialist training from The Feeding Trust — ensuring a truly informed, evidence-based approach.

💡 Designed to support families struggling with:
• Limited food variety or picky eating
• Mealtime stress or anxiety
• Sensory-related feeding challenges
• Difficulties progressing with textures
• Oral-motor or developmental feeding concerns
Through a compassionate, child-led approach, we aim to understand why feeding difficulties are happening and provide practical, tailored strategies to make mealtimes more positive and manageable for everyone.

🤝 You’re not alone—support is here.

Yesterday Natalie and I did our last pop-up sensory hair salon. Can you believe we’ve been running this service every 8 weeks for the last 3 years!! Our first ever salon was 28th May 2023!!

What started in our old market rasen clinic moved to a couple of village halls and eventually ended up in my garden room at home. It’s been the best and most successful location we’ve used but as I’m moving house we’ve made the difficult decision to close the pop-up salon service.

We’ve seen children come and go, a testament to the impact we were able to make 🥹

But we would really like to wish a heartful good luck to our OGs, the kids and parents we’ve worked with since the start, it’s not always been easy but you’ve trusted us and you’ve come so far, we know you’ve got this!

And finally to Natalie, you’ve cut hair with so much love, patience and empathy, in many many different positions, you’ve been the best and I will be forever grateful that you said yes to this idea I had 3 years ago.

Thank you to everyone past and present for using this wonderful, much needed service, but for now…. That’s a wrap!

Here’s some ideas to keep your nervous system calm and regulated when temperatures rise:

In hot weather our bodies can slip into stress mode more easily. Try these simple, sensory-friendly supports:

💧 Water play – paddling, splashing, or running hands under cool water

🥤 Cold drinks with straws - Sipping through a straw adds proprioceptive input to the mouth and jaw, which can support regulation.

🧊 Ice exploration (controlled) - Hold ice cubes wrapped in cloth, or add them to a bowl of water with objects to fish out. This provides strong but manageable sensory input—great for grounding.

🍉 Hydrating crunchy foods - Cold fruit like watermelon, cucumber, or frozen grapes can provide calming oral input with hydration benefits.

🎐 Slow swinging or rocking (in shade) - A hammock, swing, or rocking chair in a cool, shaded space gives rhythmic vestibular input that can be deeply regulating.

🏖 Shaded quiet zone - A tent, parasol, or indoor corner with low lighting and familiar items helps reduce visual and auditory overwhelm. Think shade, soft textures, low noise, a fan or cooling cloth.

🛏 Breathable soft fabrics - Light cotton, bamboo, or muslin materials can reduce irritation compared to synthetic fabrics, helping prevent sensory overload.

💆Slow it down – rest, gentle movement, and regular breaks

📅 Keep routines steady - Hot weather can disrupt regulation, maintaining predictable routines can provide a sense of safety and control.

✨ Key tip: Offer choice and control wherever possible. What feels calming for one person may feel overwhelming for another—so adapting intensity, texture, and temperature is essential.

Small, cooling sensory moments can make a big difference 💙

Thank you Steve Ashton for taking the time to visit Potential OT Ltd to provide
an insightful CPD session.

We spent the morning discussing :
- The importance of thorough postural assessments
- The need for clinicians to lead during product trials/demos
- 24 hour postural management
- Working as an MDT to meet postural needs
- The benefit of modular systems in managing changing needs

We really enjoyed getting hands-on with the Spex Seating products and seeing just how adaptable they can be.
