Su***de Prevention Day

Each year on 10th September, people across the world unite to mark World Su***de Prevention Day — a day of reflection, awareness, and hope. It is an opportunity for individuals, communities, and organisations to stand together with a shared purpose: to save lives, challenge stigma, and create a culture where seeking support is seen as a strength, not a struggle.

This year’s theme, ‘Changing the Narrative on Su***de’, calls on us to move beyond silence and misunderstanding and towards compassion, connection, and open conversation. By changing the way we talk about su***de, we can help create environments where people feel heard, valued, and supported when they need it most.

The need for this conversation has never been greater. More than 720,000 people worldwide die by su***de each year, making it one of the leading causes of death among young people aged 15–29. Behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a community whose lives are forever changed.

To mark World Su***de Prevention Day, we are proud to be partnering with the Public Health Team and Lincolnshire County Council. Kate Cooper, Public Health Officer for Su***de Prevention, Self-Harm and Mental Health, will be taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge this September. Any funds raised through this inspiring effort will support BroPro – How Are You Lincolnshire | Bro Pro UK, helping to strengthen mental health support across our communities.

At Student Wellbeing, we want every student to know that support is available and that no one has to face difficult times alone. If you are struggling to cope, feeling overwhelmed, worried about harming yourself, or experiencing suicidal thoughts, please reach out. We are here to listen without judgement, help you explore your options, and support you in finding a way forward.

Action for all of us.

There are lots of things we can do to help look after our own and other's mental wellbeing.

One action we're behind is continuing to challenge the stigma around mental health by talking about it.

We've also collated a list of different support services you can access.

Keep speaking up.
