This says so much about how much someone loves their horse and is prepared to shelve ambition and to put the horse first ❤️⭐️❤️

The story of Mouse 🐭 and the importance of patience.

Mouse was imported from Portugal as a 5 year old, he arrived at Sparrow Oast and after a little down time we started training him and his owner Suellen White. The first year had mixed results, their first away show was a great success but we also had some anxiety and bouts of very ‘hot’, agitated behaviour with some very aggressive head shaking. This was investigated by MRI but Mouse was all clear with no problematic mechanical issues to be found!! So, what next?!!!
Along with the help of Claire Gallimore Dressage we started a 4 month programme of in hand work only to help Mouse improve his posture and relaxation in his work. I am so proud of Suellen who despite having competitive plans for Mouse this year took a step back from riding and helped us reboot his mental and physical self using groundwork only.
The result today had me feeling quite emotional, we are back in full training mode, we applied gradual pressure today, with increasing the amount we asked of Mouse and he took it all in his stride and when he had a break he lowered his neck forward and out and didn’t headshake once!
The moral of the story, be patient, be prepared to put your own ambitions away for a while for the sake of your horse, and never underestimate the power of groundwork.

The Petplan Area Festival is an event my client Jessica Bolleurs and her horse Bentley have been working towards for several months. After achieving the qualification to compete , a technical issue almost put paid to their hard work. From thinking they did not have a place due to a glitch in the system and then to receive a phone call to say their place was secured was a huge relief as you might imagine.

Here's what Jess had to say about the final part of their journey to the Area Festival at Wellington.

"I'm lucky to work for a company that supports flexible working. This meant I was able to arrange another arena hire session at the start of the week, ahead of the show on Thursday.

After Monday's training, Bentley enjoyed a physio session with Debbie Wi******er. During competition season, he has sessions more regularly to help keep him comfortable.

We set off for Wellington just after midday - polished and ready for action. A special shout out to my transporter and super groom! None of our adventures would be possible if it wasn't for Jamie from JLS Horse Transport ...She's been absolutely amazing!

On arrival we popped the Bemer Horse Set on while getting him ready. We got a respectable 64.46% in the Medium 73 Bronze class, which had 25 entries. While we had no major mistakes, we lacked the "wow" factor for the higher marks. All-in-all it was a lovely day : safe travels, clean test and fab support from Annie and Jamie.

The Wellington Area Festival remains one of my favourite shows."
