September is like January for skin.

We’re not meant to hide from summer. It’s there to be enjoyed, long days, holidays, sunshine, time with people we love, and being as careful as we can while we do it. This summer especially has been a good one, and I feel lucky for every bit of it.

But summer asks a lot of our skin, however careful we are. UV exposure. Heat. More time away from our usual routines. Alcohol, celebrations, food we don’t normally eat. All the things that make for a wonderful few months can leave skin dehydrated, inflamed, and a little worn out by the time autumn arrives. Barrier weakened. Moisture depleted. Everything working a bit harder than it should.

September is the reset. Not undoing anything, just helping skin recover and rebuild before we head into the colder months.

I’m back in clinic from tomorrow, full of zest for autumn and everything this season brings. I can’t wait to see some familiar faces again, and if you’ve been thinking your skin needs a little attention after the summer, I’d love to welcome you in too x

My treatment room has seen a lot of tears.

People book facials when they’re not okay. When life is hard and they want to do something, anything, that feels like taking care of themselves. And sometimes they arrive for a facial and end up telling me things they haven’t told anyone else.

I don’t mind that. I’m honoured by it.

I’ve had my own hard times. My own trauma. Periods where life felt really heavy. I found my way through and it’s made me very attuned to when someone who walks through my door isn’t quite right.

Skin conditions make this harder. Acne, rosacea, pigmentation, perimenopausal skin changes — they don’t just affect how you look. They affect how you feel about yourself. How you show up in the world. Whether you want to leave the house.

That’s not vanity. That’s mental health.
