Hello, I’m Kathie, a Gynaecology Consultant Nurse, with 30 years’ extensive experience in all aspects of women's health care. I am passionate about educating and supporting women to make informed decisions about their health and my particular area of expertise is menopause care. I am registered with the British Menopause Society (BMS) as a Menopause Specialist. This means that the advice I give ca

n be trusted to be accurate and individualised. My registration requires that I keep my knowledge up-to-date and re-validate every 3 years. For more information about BMS registered menopause specialists click here. I have provided NHS Menopause clinics since 2012, and opened my private clinic September 2019. Having my own clinic is so rewarding; although I always try to give as much as possible to every client - both private and NHS - having an hour rather then 20 minutes makes a huge difference and allows “time” to really talk and work out solutions for each individual client. there’s also a number of prescription medications that are not available via NHS prescribing that I can recommend and prescribe privately, giving my private clients more options and possibly better symptom control. Sleeplessness, hot flushes, irritability, low mood, anxiety, panic, brain fog, headaches, joint pain, poor memory and concentration, exhaustion and loss of confidence are all very common symptoms. Menopause can occur spontaneously at any age, and can be particularly distressing for women who have not started or completed their families. Many cancer treatments can also lead to menopause - and women recovering from the trauma of a cancer diagnosis also find themselves having to deal with the rollercoaster of menopause. Women often describe loosing their identity, and feeling invisible. Relationships with loved ones and friends can become strained and breakdown; I have met many women who feel they can no longer cope and have resigned from their jobs. For many women HRT can be really beneficial - and is recognised in NICE guidance as first line treatment for menopause symptoms - however, for women who are avoiding hormone treatment for whatever reason, there are alternatives. I find there is generally always something that can be done to improve quality of life. Being a nurse, I have an approachable, down to earth manner. I take pride in my job, and genuinely treat my clients as I would want a friend or relative to be treated.
“Kathie was so easy to talk to and I immediately felt supported. My own GP was very unhelpful and it was a huge relief to talk to an expert on the matter. I've started treatment and feel much much better. No sweats anymore improved sleep and feeling much more confident. Concentration much better and feeling a lot happier. Wish all women could get this great service and support.

Perimenopause can feel like your body is speaking a completely different language some days. 💛

If you're finding this stage confusing or overwhelming, please know you're not alone. Understanding what's happening with your hormones can be the first step towards feeling more in control and finding the right support for you. ✨

I often hear women worrying about how long they should take HRT. The truth is, there’s no set time – it’s all about what feels right for you. NICE guidance doesn’t put arbitrary limits on use 🌿💜

Did you know that women can lose around 10% of their bone mass within the first five years of menopause? 💡

Bone is living tissue that constantly renews itself, but after age 30, bone loss naturally begins. Menopause, especially before 45, speeds this up, increasing the risk of osteoporosis.

As the days get longer and the sunshine starts making more of an appearance, it’s no surprise many of us begin to feel a little lighter too ☀️💛

More sunlight can help support our mood, energy levels and vitamin D intake — a small seasonal shift that can make a big difference to our wellbeing.

As we move into the brighter months, it’s a good reminder to check in with yourself, spend a little more time outdoors, and give your wellbeing some attention too ✨

The bank holiday weekend is here and you might’ve noticed… it finally feels like summer is on its way!

Seasonal shifts can have a real impact during menopause. Warmer weather can intensify hot flushes, disrupt sleep, and leave you feeling more fatigued than usual.

☀️ Stay hydrated
☀️ Dress in light layers
☀️ Be mindful of caffeine and alcohol

Menopause isn’t static, it changes with your environment too. Learning how your body responds to things like temperature is key to managing it well.

Small changes can sometimes make a noticeable difference.

For example, caffeine and alcohol can trigger hot flushes and disrupt sleep for some women.

Not everyone is affected the same way - but it can be helpful to notice patterns and adjust where needed.

Menopause management is often about understanding your body.
